You should refer to your contract of employment. It might state the notice period required.

Assuming the times involved are considerably different and constitute a significant alteration to your domestic routine, a notice period of just 24 hours is completely unreasonable and a significant change of the terms and conditions that had become normal practice.

no I'm the only one who did not volunteer but was removed. there are staff with less service still on the shift

As in volunteer for what?

Based around what you are posting I suspect that there was some negotiation between the Union and Management.

Are you a member of the union?

I would caution posting too much here though.
