Why can't we give a manager 1 full season?

    Even Moyes got that.

This "bounce" everyone expected does not mean it was going last anyway at most clubs it doesn’t long term. Time and time again same players have been underperforming season by season.

We can still question managers decisions, choices and performance, but what good does sacking a new manager do now? Back to square one again and the players win again and we back to same medicore **** for another season.

I don't think Amorin should get free ride. It's not what im wanting. But what I'm suggesting is that if a manager finally has balls to get rid of players who sulk at every given opportunity and if he buys his players and we see no improvement than yes he needs get out.

But maybe it's best get rid of underperforming now as keeping them has not worked for 12 years.

There was an error displaying this embed.

Wasn't Moyes sacked in April before he finished his first season?

Agree though, would be crazy to end this project before it's even had a chance to begin properly with a preseason and summer window.

That's right Giggs came in forgot about that actually. Think we played Villa in game near end at OT

Moyes got sacked when CL for the following season became mathematically impossible.

I agree that I wouldn't get carried away by manager bounces and I'm not worried that we haven't had one. They usually only happen when a manager comes in and adapts to the players rather than vice versa.

But there's something not right when he cannot get any sort of tune out of the team after 4 months. It feels to me that there's a lack of motivation from the players - there's no spark. It's up to the manager to find a way to inject that. Tactics and systems come second to basic motivation. Now there might be reasons for that beyond Amorim's control and 4/5 changes in the Summer might flip the situation. But it'll come down to the assessment of INEOS who will have far more information that us.

Its easy to forget that just last summer Mainoo was playing in the Euro 24 final for England, in a midfield 2, with 3 at the back, 2 wing backs, 2 10's and a striker ahead of him. His reward for both a good season and for making an impact with England.

But this season he looks absolutely lost there.

Yes, 2nd season syndrome, and even under Ten Hag he was always a bit of an issue defensively in midfield. But the drop off is very noticeable and he is not the only player who has gotten a lot worse rather than better.

This just isn't right. I remember Mourinho getting hit constantly with the "how many players has he improved line". Well currently it isn't "how many players have improved", its "how many players have gotten worse".

With Havertz injured I reckon Obi Martin would have got minutes at Arsenal but instead he's stuck at u21s here!

Can't argue with that. Fair point at end there.

I will admit that im not so sure I have been as forgiving even 2 seasons ago, but personally just fed up with same thing over and over that another few years won't make much difference.

I'm willing to give new approach a chance even what is to come might not be pretty.

Mainoo and Hojlund are the two ones I am side eyeing tbh.

Mainoo i have always worried about his defensive intensity and general physicality. He is a big enough guy, but he lacks pace/acceleration and intensity in his defending. was the same under EtH but the issue was less pronounced in that formation, imo.

Right now I don't think he displays the intensity to play as the 8 - and imo Bruno's ground coverage is why he is playing there rather than Mainoo. That can be added to your game, the knowledge of when to go and when to stay can be added. But it is a acase of actualy doing it. I have no personal doubt that Amorim has been trying to teach him the specifics of the role he needs and the adaption he needs to see. So is Amorim a poor coach/teacher, is Mainoo a poor learner, has there not been enogh time, is mainoo simp,y not suited?

Hojlund I thought would suit Amorim. But he looks worse every game. But I also think we don't attack or get the ball into the final third in the same way Sporting did for Gyokeres. We play far more balls directly to him rather than using the WBs and 10s to carry the ball into the final third, or hit runs into the channel for the striker. But Hojlund fighting and losing every ball in the centre dropping deep could be Hojlund failing to get the seperation he is being asked to get rather than Amorim telling him to be a traditional target man.

Elsewhere I have seen discussion on selling Mainoo if he doesn't suit exactly what Amomim wants from him. And I don't like that dogmatic approach.

We can't sell players JUST because they aren't a perfect fit, regardless of their talent/potential level.

Amorim could be sacked in November. And the next manager could, while playing 3atb, have a style that does suit Garnacho and Mainoo. Amorim HAS to be able to adjust his style to suit the players, to some degree, as well as coach the players to be better at the things he needs. Thats not to say he should be overridden on all calls by the club and told to keep and play whomever. If Mainoo was USELESS at any role required then sell. But i think there is enough in his game to think he could be good in that deeper 2, with better intensity and tracking added to his game. it has to be possible to improve those aspects (POSSIBLE). Amorim and Mainoo need to work at it.

Garnacho has shown a good degree of willingness to work on his game to adapt to what Amorim would want. And Amorim, tbf, has shown a willingness to adapt the roles of players around Garnacho to aid him.

Nobody in history has ever said INEOS are worse than the Glazers.

Its funny though, you can say INEOS are great all day and nobody will pass any remarks. But say that they are doing badly and people take issue with it.

Just because the Glazers were a disgrace does not mean INEOS are good at running football clubs. Just as Ten Hag failing does not mean Amorim is a good coach.

They may well be great, but each has to stand on their own merits.

I just want Ineos to employ people that are good at their jobs and let them do their jobs.

Glazers failed at that with Woodward, Arnold and murtough, though with murtough I think responsibilities and authority were issues as well.

In berrada and wilcox I feel ineos made good appointments but only time will tell. I don't think the ashworth appointment was wrong, but the fit didn't work and they changed course, unlike the glazers ever.

I don't want sjr deciding on the style, or the players to sign.

As for the staffing cuts and budget cuts… I feel bad for the people who've lost their jobs. But can I say united having 300+ more staff than the next biggest pl team was correct? No. Can I say them having ~750 staff is correct? No. I can't criticise the merits of the cuts, cause I've no idea.

Hilarious, still not as funny as claiming nobody in history has said INEOS are worse than the Glazers.

Ineos in financial bother now as well it seems. Trying to get out of a sponsorship deal with the All-Blacks.

Is that Sheikh lad still around!?

U18 side 3-1 up vs Chelsea in the Cup. Obi with the opener and then Scanlon with 2.

Such a talented group at U18.

I am genuinely curious, who has said that INEOS are worse than the Glazers?

They aren't worse than the Glazers, so it would be interesting to see who said that, can you tell me who it was?

Pity he couldn't have put in a bit of hard graft in the last five years with United.

no doubt some of them will.

Key will be getting them decent loans at the right time, and then sell if/when we decide they won't make it.

City and Chelsea have built their finances on selling the kids for good money. Where as we have generally lost them on a free after keeping them too long or sold them for peanuts when we need to get rid. Though we probably just haven't had sufficient talent to sell.

I think we were right to hold on to McTominay as we did. Should have sold Lingard sooner - keeping him that season after the West Ham loan was a terrible decision. People will say Rashford, obviously.

United need to be quick, and decisive, in their determination of the youths as they hit 18/19 or so, imo.

I think players should be given a chance, but if we are not going to or able to - sell them with a buy back and sell on and get on with it. The sales of Kambwala, Fernandez, even Greenwood (structurally) are better sales.

Yeh just let me find all the comments on here, reddit, facebook, twitter etc.

You claimed nobody in history has said it, can you prove that? No you're not omnipresent so it's impossible.

Good luck I'm not getting into a sad tit for tat because you can't admit your comment was embarrassing and downright ridiculous.

    Edit : Mitch's post 👏🏻

Obi with a 2nd to put the U18 side 4-1 up.

EDIT: And now his hattrick for 5-1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,211 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Does anybody really think that when I wrote "nobody in history" that I gave one toss whether some rando on twitter had once said it?

That post was just your man deflecting away from the point made as usual. Easier to pretend not to read the posts than to actually admit that they might have been wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,211 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

No, I indeed cannot prove a negative. I believe many scientists also struggle with that.

Next time you stop reading the post there is no need to tell me about it. Just saying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,779 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

    Like you are now?

My post was a sarcastic reply then you came along with your "nobody in history"

You've been proven wrong admit it and walk away.

I would be team INEOS for life if they finally stopped the club waiting years on end for players to "come good", or stopped worrying about them finding their form for another club.

Mr PR strikes again. We've seen these kind of articles about him before when a new manager came in and he was looking to impress them. I'd reserve judgement for a month or so and see if he actually presses the opposition and not just jogging around the pitch.
