He will be a lot cheaper in the championship! De Ligt loan for this season and then reassess next summer would my thinking.

Paying big money for 2 relatively unproven CBs (Yoro and Branthwaite) is too big a risk imo.

Nobody knows if these signings will work out, but one very positive thing is that Utd are getting their business done early. IN far too many windows we have spent weeks chasing one target to have then to panic and look for alternatives close to the end of the window and after the season has started.

I am hoping that the new people at Utd, Inoes and the people they have brought in since they started, have a plan in place rather than just getting a few lucky wins that nobody else was bidding for. If that is the case it bodes well for the future.

It is great to be getting players in but the players out without much fuss is just as important. Taking them together it is a massive improvement.

Greenwood sold (after last summer's mess), Willy out if contact next summer sold are a big part of the reason players were signed. A forward and defender in with the same going out.

If the club can sell a midfield player or two from Casemiro, Eriksen and McTominay or if a Sancho buyer appears we can actually have confidence the club will have a plan in place, groundwork done in players to come in.

Tackling the financial mess is a huge challenge on recruitment but signs are good so far that he new people have some sense on how to manager that side much much better. Ultimately we don't know if the players in are correct but the financial packages don't appear to be ones that will damage future windows due to players also going out to create the financial space.

Rumours that Antony will be allowed leave on loan if someone is willing to pay his wages. Would love to see him sold, he's a complete pudding.

Shocking to think we spent the guts of £200m on Sancho, Antony, Pellestri and Ammad, and still haven't the right wing sorted out.

There is a good squad player in him when all is going well. United have had too many of those players over the recent years and can't keep carrying them.

I agree, no doubt he has been very disappointing so far but I think there is a player in there somewhere and I definitely think he can make a contribution. Huge season for him though and he needs to deliver now.

He would make a decent left back if he committed to the positional change. I don't think anyone has an issue with his attitude and he always seems to work hard so would it be worth a try?

Agree 100% on his application. He has never not burst his bollox for us, regardless of how he or the team are doing

As for converting him, what are you basing this on?

A quick Google of his defensive stats threw up the following.

Antony sympathy? BAH! BAH I SAY.

He has shown nothing worth considering imo.

2 years in he still won't use his right foot and an overlaping fullback is useless cause he doesn't release them.

I have zero expectation he will do anything uselful for us.

I don't actually think we agree.

I was trying to say he could be a good squad player in theory but he needs to go - we have seen enough could be's or could have beens at United.

I have no idea WTF ETH has been doing with Antony to have never developed in anyway since joining.

I think if Sancho isn’t moving on we need to try to shift Antony, be it as a loan or permanent transfer. If Sancho isn’t leaving I guess Antony stays.
Presumably Pellestri will leave this summer. Having Amad, Sancho or Antony, Rashford and Garnacho would seem like enough cover for the wings with Mount also able to play there if necessary.

TBF Amad has never really got much of a chance yet.

Can't seem to do the twitter thing, but PSG are looking for 70m for Ugarte. Let the dance begin..

Well he has shown a good work ethic and he has the tools I believe. Obviously I'm not saying he should be thrown in at left back now but with plenty coaching I just hink he'd be decent there. Also the fact that we have a €100 million player on God knows what sort of a monstrous contract on the books (that is useless in the position for which he was purchased) makes him almost impossible to sell. We may as well try to make use of him at left back (a position we are short of consistently fit players) and get some value out of him

    No Saudi for case

I did think at times last season we should have swiched to a 3 at the back with Antony LWB and Dalot RWB. We the thought being he is generally positionally disciplined and if we had him LWB and Rashford LF we potentially would have seen Antony overlapping him on the left, and crossing with his left - two elements we sorely lacked last season. Doing this from LWB reduces something the defensive issues that would be more an issue at LB, and this was also when we were already playign Casemiro in defence so thought maybe Kambala, Case and Evans (for eg) with Amrabat and Mainoo ahead, Bruno, Rashford, Hojund up top could have done something better than we were seeing.

Can't see United paying that much. We might see them move on to someone else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,942 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

I don't believe that PIF story above, at all.

In no world do I believe United have told ANYONE that Sancho and Casemiro are not for sale.

I'd believe the story has been mangalled and it should actually be Case, Bruno and Sancho were part of various discussions but PIF have said no to Case and Sancho, and United have said no on Bruno - and someone has misunderstood or got lost along the way.

PIF telling United they are not interested in Sancho or Case makes WAY more sense (and I'd accept United telling PIF no on Bruno as being true).

not selling casemiro will be very disappointing.

i suppose we were all hoping (prob exec's at utd also) that a saudi club would come and bail us out.

after CB, replacing casemiro was the 2nd biggest priority this summer IMO.

Well they are hardly going to say they want to get rid of them are they, otherwise you'll end up with Italian clubs offering a pittance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,143 ✭✭✭markc91

Think we'd take a pittance to get him off the wage bill

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,266 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

A loan with a cheaper obligation to buy would be a good deal. Also I can still see Sancho being sold to possibly Juventus who probably have to get rid of some players first or Dortmund who have to do likewise

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,888 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

PSG want Neves to be their new shiny toy so are selling Ugarte to fund that move. Its probably Benfica setting the Neves price thats then knocking into us.

a clip of yoro arriving for his 1st training session and a few clips from training.

who's that bringing up the rear at 1:10? 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,942 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

I odn't beleive the story, for th ereasons I have said, but there would be a large difference between telling PIF they are staying at United and shutting down any talks, and begging them to buy them. 'We are open to offers'. 'We will sell if our value is met'. very different from 'They are staying at United' and 'PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TAKE THEM'.

INEOS aren't messing about. Some targeted, young signings made in time to integrate into squad for preseason. Almost like a proper football club.

We'll talk of the OAP Galacticos of Ed Woodward's Lost Weekend in years to come and wonder how it went on for so long.

Seems like there is legs to the links to that kid from arsenal. Aa far as young takevts go he'd be right up there behind that rediculous kid at spurs.
