Would be all over a deal for Douglas Luiz as part of the Sancho transfer even as a loan to buy. Falls into the prem proven category and was a beast at Villa. Could provide us with the stop gap to save on an elite CM for another year.

Although I wouldn't mind taking a punt on Hayden hackney or Richard Rios if they were on the cheaper side

Theres a lad on reddit posting everyday about Richard Rios, I must look him up.

Luiz and take Vlahović on loan for the season. He'll be leaving Juve on a free next summer so take him off their hands for the season. Kills two birds with one stone bringing in players in two problem positions.

Wouldn't want to be a laughing stock, best stick with the in his prime young Hojlund, what could go wrong!

only thing with luiz is his injury record - particularly this season. i think that alone might turn me off him.

know nothing about weah. vlahovic….i dunno. he's on €370k per week at juve!

Share the link if you find it, watched bits of him in the club world cup and he was everywhere on the pitch

Negative, I'd sell him in a heartbeat but you want to replace him with a 38 year old that had the same amount of PL goals last season ..."progress" eh? As I said previously there's bound to be more experienced strikers that could do a job as a backup who aren't closer to 40

i'd love a signing like richard rios….sort of an unknown quantity, though profile has increased since club world cup.

i've seen prices ranging from 20-85m so who knows how much a deal might cost.

Rios would probably cost a good bit at this stage, he isn't the best kept secret anymore but worth a go if he doesn't get snapped up by better.

Vardy scored more PL goals than all our players last season. Amad and Bruno were top scorers with only 8.

asking price for mbeumo has increased according to whitwell. or else we will pay exactly what they always wanted, while putting this out to make it seem like we got the win in the negotiations.

According to The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell, Manchester United have yet to meet Brentford’s valuation for forward Bryan Mbeumo, with the English club increasing their asking price amid ongoing negotiations.

Brentford are reportedly using a supposed £70 million bid from Tottenham Hotspur as a benchmark, although Spurs have denied making any formal offer.

Manchester United’s latest bid, reported by David Ornstein to be around £55 million plus £7.5 million in add-ons (£62.5 million total), matches the fee paid for striker Matheus Cunha. However, Brentford are demanding a higher price based on Mbeumo’s impressive statistics.

"Manchester United haven’t bid the fee that Brentford want and Brentford are making it higher day by day. Brentford are using Tottenham’s 70M bid for Bryan Mbeumo as a valuation," Whitwell has shared.

I think Vardy's a risk at that age for sure, but to be fair to him he got 9 league goals and 4 assists last year, to Hojlund's 4 goals and 1 assist. Could do worse then having both, and bringing in a proper first team striker.

I'm not on twitter but Laurie has debunked that 70m quote as fake.

Or 18:53 into the latest Talk of the Devils podcast.

Wonder will there be any interest in Moise Kean? He has a 52 million euro buyout clause that is only in effect for 2 weeks, starting today. Think he could actually be good for yee. Fiorentina already play a wing-back system, so its an easy enough transition.

He didn't pull up any trees with Everton a few years ago, but there's absolutely no shortage of strikers who only show flashes until their mid-20s, when they develop fully. And he has done that - looked awesome in bursts throughout his late teens and early 20s, and was a 1 in 2 striker on loan in France. But as a 24 year old last season it all seemed to come together. Brilliant in Serie A (second top scorer). With the reported prices of some of the other players going around, I think 45 million pounds is a steal for him.

Not having the Vardy stuff at all.

Big fish in a little pond at Leicester so had to be tolerated but comes across like an absolute melt. Not what the dressing room needs and doubt Ruben is looking for that kind of character around the place.

Rasmus has all the tools and I think he'd benefit massively from getting a season or 2 removed from the spotlight and learning from an experienced striker.

Like I said I don't have twitter was going by the many comments on reddit, if any of you have twitter is it possible to check Lauries comments? I'm well open for correction as usual.

I’m not saying you’re wrong at all - just showing where people can listen to what he actually said on the podcast as there seems to be some confusion.

Someone misquoted him on Twitter and Laurie replied saying it wasn’t what he said.

I'm on a roll of being wrong yesterday and today 😅

bored wednesday evening. here's what he said. i think probably was careless with his words, and more talking about what he thinks is happening, rather than what is happening.

    LW in italics.

    why haven't utd signed mbuemo?

they haven't bid the fee brentford want

    haven't they?

although there's a little bit of confusion over what that exactly might be.

going higher by the day possibly?

i think, i get the sense this might be what is suspected by utd. i think they feel they have bid a fair price for a player who was under the impression he could leave brentford for a good value, so you know the 2nd bid (that ornstein reported) thats the same fee as cunha. i think we said on the last podcast brentford were pitching for a higher fee than cunha given mbuemo's stats. there is obviously this idea that spurs have made this bid of 70m and i think thats being used by brentford as a kind of gauge but at the same time spurs are denying to me and i think to other people that they have made an official bid so there's lot of claim and counterclaim.

Inter Milan are interested in Richard Rios, I guess that's their replacement for calhanoglu

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 167 ✭✭Anything4883

There is absolutely no chance on this planet of Vardy signing for Utd , I dont know why people keep mentioning it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,612 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

I said it last year and I think the same again, regardless of how good Mbuemo could be I think we'd be better off cutting the deal dead and telling Brentford the days of us being milked are over. Leave Brentford with an unhappy player who knows they priced him out of a move.

The longer we keep letting ourselves be strung along before eventually giving in to the sellers demands the longer it'll keep happening.

What Laurie said was there is talk that Brentford are using the 70m bid from Spurs but that was in the context of media/fan speculation and he IMMEDIATELY followed this up by saying their info is there was no Spurs bid. And all of this is the smoke and mirrors of transfer negotiations behind the scenes and being played through the media and fans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,502 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Because it is a discussion forum, and some people feel it is an idea the club should be considering. Kinda the way this whole place works.

Don't think the Mbeumo deal will be done before pre season starts.

Very sad news about Jota, only married last week. He was a great option for pool when things weren't going right for Salah.

That’s absolutely heartbreaking news. Only got married a few days ago and leaves behind 3 young children.
