local SIM card - bonus offered

I want to apply for some local jobs and I think that having a local contact number will increase my chances of attracting the attention of recruiters.

I am looking for someone to buy me 2 SIM cards at Three and send them by courier (DHL, other) to an address in another EU country.
I am willing to pay €100 for this effort via SEPA transfer, plus of course the cost of the sims. I think I can dispatch the courier myself and support all that cost on my side.

I'm not sure if SIMs can be activated from outside the country, so they have to be activated there before being sent by courier.

Who will be interested contact me and/or give me their phone number so we can discuss the rest of the details.

It would cost me a couple of hundred more to fly for Dublin for this reason only… is a genuine need I have

What service provider do you wantbthe cards from out of interest?

BTW if you are looking for a job in ireland and you have a local phone number but a forgien address it will look wierd.

Seems like a scam - why would you need a local SIM card for a “local” job but you don’t know a single person in Ireland who could do this for you? Or, to put it another way, why do you need to hide the fact that you aren’t in Ireland? Could the job - if it even exists - entail making fake calls to people?

I see Three is one of the largest operators so the sims can be from Three.

Vestiapx, having address on the resume is not a common thing.

Volchitsa, I don't know anyone otherwise I would not have to pay more or post here. Whoever applied ever to jobs in other countries would understand where I am coming from. Recruiters filter resumes and tend to leave the ones of foreigners aside. I am confident I would easily find a job if appearing to be there already rather than having to assure recruiters I am 100% ready to relocate etc. I work in IT and I am curious how would I benefit in making fake calls … I take note of your opinion but you're wrong here.

Very suspicious… later on those SIM cards might be used by russian inteligence for any terrorist activities in the EU etc

The buyer name will be reported in case of any police investigation

you can instantly get an Irish eSIM through Lyca Mobile, Vodafone, or Three. If they ask for an address at sign up, you can put a hotel or something.

    What local jobs, where?

I don't think the lack of a local phone number would put any employers off a person showing your initiative.

So what type of work, can I help?

If I can save you a hundred Euro or so, I am pleased to do it.

We can split the saving eh?

Lyca - yes, even though when I tried, I never received it having been charged for it. Had to request the money back via Paypal as I was getting nowhere with their Customer service.

Vodafone - you have to physically go into the store and they'd do it there (had to do it recently and not all stores are able to do eSIMs…cannot do it online any longer and when you could, you had to have a physical SIM first)

Three - I think the same. Physical SIM first, then online you can request a replacement in a form of eSIM.

LOL Why would you need TWO sim cards for jobhunting?

Also: in IT? I can't imagine that any recruitment service would care that a phone number was local, except possibly for low-paid jobs where presence is essential, like office cleaning. IT though? Nah.

In fact, assuming all your school and HE qualifications are from a foreign country, any recruiters would probably not even notice whether or not your phone number was local. It's about the least important part of your CV.

Just get a virtual number - I had them for years for UK and German customers to call me.

You want a local number cause you think it’ll look better when applying for jobs, but… you’re not here. Having an Irish number in say Russia would look even weirder. Its not local unless your living here.

looks good, thanks for letting me know about it

    MobileTester, this is bs… sorry

I am from an EU country, think about the address given to DHL, the SEPA transfer…

Odd thing you think of me being Russian when US companies in Ireland are full of … Russians, hired by Indians for the most part, working there and apparently that is not raising any concerns around

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 ed3w

Slightly Kwackers, I am looking at US companies, like AWS, Google and such and lack of relocation could be that edge making the difference, hence why I want to have a local number

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,396 ✭✭✭whomitconcerns

The way you are talking about Russians and Indians as if they are a bad thing... Probably not a good way to get people to do you a favour

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,623 ✭✭✭JVince

I assure you that Russian intelligence use systems and technology slightly above this very basic, humdrum, everyday level.

Though I suspect you are being facicious - or at least I hope so and don't think russian intelligence are at this basic level

Well I would think that any company not realising people are fully mobile within the EU, isn't worth working for.

I applied for my last job here using an English mobile so that didn't put them off.

Why would you just want to come here out of the blue with no contacts?

If you are looking for a professional post, the phone number is irrelevant. If you have a desire to relocate to a particular place, then come here, accommodation wasn't that expensive and jobs are fairly easily obtained. Most are via recruitment agencies anyway and I had British agencies phone me in Abu Dhabi and even arrange a phone interview, so I would think Irish agencies would be accommodating also.

I don't think a national number is that important, it's a tad deceptive really and someone might have suspicions about a none national with no travel history to the country had an Irish number.

Just how would "lack of relocation" make a difference? Do you expect the company to employ you while sleeping in a tent or flat hunting?

    Just order an eSIM

A “TRUSTWORTHY” GYM owner who helped the Kinahan Cartel carry out a serious offence by buying his friend – a leading member of the gang – a top-up for a phone that was used to coordinate the murder of an innocent man, has been jailed for two years.

And that was just a top-up…

this is the most ludicrous thing that couldn't happen for so many reasons it is not even worth talking about it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 ed3w

I'm surprised that no one is interested - probably €100 doesn't mean much or everyone on this forum is scared that I'm part of the Italian mafia, and not an ordinary guy looking for work

can't order eSIMs and services like ringover appear geared towards companies only

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,294 ✭✭✭✭banie01

Do you mean to say the actual thing that happened and resulted in a 2yr sentence merely for topping up a phone number used in the commission lof a crime is ludicrous?

Why would you, who's soliciting someone to do you the solid of providing you a SIM card, seek to diminish the risk inherent should you use said number to engage in criminal activity?

I am reminded of FSB/GRU and their Sims 3/3 Sims debacle...
