Does an NCT retest fail qualify for a retest?

My car failed the NCT on handbrake imbalance. My mechanic reckons he's fixed it but doesn't have the equipment to test it fully. I've booked a retest well within the 30 day limit and am wondering what happens if it fails the retest. Can I book another retest within the original 30 day limit or does the car have to go through a full inspection at that stage?
