    Hi

Have applied for the Executive Officer competition in the Civil Service.

Stressing about the numerical reasoning assessment. Has anyone used websites offering teaching or tips and advice on how to work out problems?

Or any recommendations for online teachers offering grinds?!

Down the bottom of the link page is an EO test. I believe it has everything with the exception of the essay portion of the test. Double check though as I'm some randomer on the internet.

Dont stress about it. Its just reading charts and graphs its not bad at all.

For the first 5 minutes of the exam focus on remembering which data is in which of the tables so you can swap to it quicker to get the information you need.

Also for the other assessment, remember that "cannot say" is a legit answer.

There will be questions like "X company sells products in Japan" and the information your given will say something like "throughout countries in asia" and that's a cannot say answer. Lots of people fail because they think cannot say is the "i dont know" answer but its a legit answer since if you said yes to that question above you'd be wrong because you'd be assuming japan is one of the countries in asia it sells in. And make sure you focus on words like "only", "never" etc, definitives, thats how people get screwed over. Ive passed every single test top 10% and coach people ive worked with through them and thats what i always teach them.

So is the answer I cannot say if japan is in Asia, we know Japan is but cannot say if japan is.

Have they said who the test provider will be yet? In my experience different test providers have different formats.

I'm in a similar position as I'm looking for as many good practice tests for both verbal and numerical reasoning to get my brain working in that manner again! I'm not great with Maths, so I need as much practice as possible.

The provider for these assessments is Sova, but I'm open to using any provider and also paying for these assessments as I found they were quite beneficial for my previous competition but the sites I used are not in operation.

Yes thats the daft part about it, Unless it says we sell products in every asian country or all of asia you cant accurately say yes because japan could be one of the asian countries it doesnt sell in.

A lot of the times the information you read will say "we sell/provide x in countries throughout asia" but we cannot 100% say that japan is one of those countries.

Don't stress. As far as I know, there is only a minimum level to pass - your actual score in it doesn't contribute to overall score.

I helped my niece for an EO test previously. I made sure she understood basic charts: bar charts, pie charts and line charts. Also calculating percentages and being comfortable with huge numbers (e.g. 1,200 millions). There was a question about currency conversion too - but familiarity with percentages will get you through that. Get a calculator with big buttons too.

The above is based on an EO test from a few years ago. Make sure there hasn't been any dramatic changes in format since then.

In this example, the information you’re given is that x company sells in Japan.

Then you’re asked whether it’s true to say that x company sells “throughout countries (plural!) in Asia”.

Unless you’ve been given other information, all that you know for sure is that it sells to Japan. While it may sell to other countries in Asia, you don’t know this from the information you’ve been given.

The correct answer therefore is don’t know/ can’t say etc.

The pass level is 8 and it's not counted for order of merit so Try not to stress but do read questions carefully I got caught out in a practice exam by not reading it Try do a few example online too

    Best luck every one .

I found it handy enough but I only did the LC a few years ago, if you were out of education a long time I can imagine it being tricky enough.

Just be aware of percentages, ratios especially and do some practice tests online if you want.

@gestappo may I ask, how do you know the psychometric test provider for the EO Assessments is Sova? I thought PAS usually went with SHL? I am just genuinely curious-thank u & best of luck to u in the assessments!

it states it in the familiarisation booklet that we got prior to the assessments.

For my previous comp a few years back it was Sova too.
