Announcement by SRG SSR (The Swiss Public Broadcaster) in German & French

    In general…

    • FM listening now accounts for >10% of radio listening in Switzerland.
    • SRG SSR is engaging in a cost cutting exercise & regards continuing and/or upgrading the current FM networks as an expense they can do without.
    • There has been no requirement for stations that are dual radiating (FM & DAB+) to maintain their FM transmissions since 2020.
    • Though not mentioned in their press release, they are closing their networks down two years early as all current FM licences in Switzerland have an expiry date of 31/12/26 - presumably some commercial stations will continue on FM between 31/12/24 and then.
    • Listeners that have not transferred over to DAB+ or internet radio are being encouraged to do so and messages for them to do so will start in the autumn.

Though not yet a complete FM switch off in the country (yet), it puts Switzerland on course to be the second country after Norway to effectively abandon FM radio broadcasting (though a few local stations still remain on FM in parts of Norway).

If you're into your FM DX'ing then this will be the last summer of attempting to receive the SRG SSR stations.
