f10 adaptive headlight failure

hi im driving a 2014 f10 5 series, one of the headlights has condenstation in it, now its got the adapted headlight failure message on the dash, if i was to pick up a second hand headlight, would the tms module in the headlight need to be programed?

I was told by a BMW mechanic that them headlights are like gold dust due to them all having condensation inside. Might be hard to find a used set without condensation

If your car is 2014 then it's the LCI model and the dipped/high beam would be xenon bulbs, not H7 as described in that link.

Also if you are replacing the module then I think the new one would have to be coded to the car.

If there are turn signal indicators in the exterior door mirrors then it's LCI.

mine has the bulb for indicator rather then LEDs, so i take it mine is halogen?

That picture is pre LCI halogen versus Xenon. It is not pre LCI versus LCI.

Halogen will have a yellow type beam while xenons will have a white/ice blue type beam. Xenon headlights also have automatic levelling and a washer jet system to clean the lens while the halogens have the inserts in the bumper they don't actually have a washer jet system. All LCI models have xenon headlights as standard while full LED was a rare option.

As I said the easiest way to tell you have a LCI model is that the exterior door mirrors will have side indicators in them. The pre LCI model had the side indicators located in the wings.

I've had the same problem on my wifes pre-LCI F10, the passenger side had f*cked up badly. I got a 2nd hand lamp with module from a place in Longford town that had a good stock of tested lights for all F10 models. I didn't need to reprogram to the car, it worked as intended when I had it all back together (halos and height adjustment)

Ironically, the water was getting in through where that useless module is and had made a right mess of the plug, which was a pain to get the corrosion out of. I sealed around the outside with silicone to make it watertight (not on the gasket on the mating faces). The result of the water ingress had caused the pins in the lamp itself to fall to bits, making the lamp unserviceable (and someday the old lamp may see the wrong end of a 50g number 8 with full chokes)

I have a spare unprogrammed module in the event I need to replace either (I have the means to program it)

I had an issue with mine, some years ago.

Turned out some previous owner had opened the headlight access panel, which is inside the wheel well, and did not close it up properly.

Ended up having to replace the PCB cartridge that controlled the headlamp, after that, no problem, closed up the access panel properly
