Replacing Water Filter on EWT Water Softener

I have a EWT Dual Water Softener that has a EWT "G1 Filter" fitted on it for the fresh water supply. It has been isntalled for over a year now and I am wondering how often the water filter should be changed?

I've been looking online and it appears you cannot purchase a "G1 Filter" from EWT to fit it yourself. To change the filter you have to purchase their "G1 Filter Change & Free Water Softener Efficiency Check" package for a whopping €180 which seems scandalous for a simple water filter change.

Anyone have any experience with changing out the water filter and what can be used?

I changed mine last year, they sold me a "EWT G1 with bracket DIY" for 112 euro. I am looking for alternatives this year.

It's just a regular water filter cartridge with a "special" fitting. I feel that they use this special fitting to make it very easy to replace (it took me 30 seconds when I did it last year) but also to prevent people from purchasing another brand. The BWT filter is similar and costs 18 euros. I feel this is almost like a scam, I am considering to replace the EWT filter to the BWT. I saw in screwfix, a similar system for just 45 euro and the cartridge is 18 euro. I hate spending 112 euro for a simple cartridge.

They offered the filter "for free" when I purchase the water softner. Now I understand, nothing is free. They milk our money selling this overprice cartridge.

Yeah it's blatant money gouging. The filter cartridge looks similar to most of the generic ones but is 600% more expensive, such a joke.

Do you think the BWT filter would fit OK?

I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know if you find a generic filter that works!

I don't think so. I am facing the same problem and I realized that their attachment is unique. For this reason I am considering to replace the water filtration system to BWT filter. The system is 45 euro (screwfix). Actually system is a fancy name for a bracket, hoses and a cartridge… So I will keep with EWT only for the water softener.

Any fix here? I'm in the same situation to replace the water filter.

Was thinking about finding someone with a 3d printer to make an attachment to connect cheaper filters to the EWT.

Indeed, it would be helpful to know as I can't seem to find any on Amazon that fit the EWT connection.
