Best value new tractor

Hi, i currently have a 2008 claas arion 7500hours and a 2006 deutz tractor 14000 hours plus an old jcb 410 12500 hours. Repairs in 2023 cost 9,800e and 6700e in 2022, there is a few months repayments left on the class, 8,400 made in repayments in 2023.

All machines need tyres in the next 6 months. Deutz and claas on slicks and jcbs tyres have serious dry rot. Do 1000 hours a year over all. A bi of road work.

Im wondering would i be mad to consider a new 120-130hp loader tractor and sell my old ones. Keep the new under warranty. And change out of warranty.

I do my own slurry,fert, mowing, zero grazing, haulage etc.

Value would be a primary concern, but it has to have a trade in value after warranty. Full cost of ownership would be key.

I would have a buyer for my own machines and would hope to have 50k cash plus finance for a new one. Or fully finance it.

Any thoughts

So you currently paying 16k roughly per year between payments and repairs.

What would repayments be on a new tractor if you put 50k cash in?

Probably finance a new tractor of that size, with that deposit, over 7 years, for €12-13,000 per year at a guess. Might make more sense than the repairs if one machine can get you out.

A new Holland t6.160 would come in about €125k all in as far as I know, if you don't want too many bells and whistles.

How would having only one tractor affect your operation? Are there times when both tractors are working together, or one of the tractors and the loader? I can only assume that there'd be more swapping of implements at least, if depending on one tractor. In the jobs you mention above, I'm guessing both tractors are used at the slurry. One pumping, and one spreading…. The fert, probably one tractor and the loader… Zero grazing, again probably both tractors…..

If the loader is anyway good I’d be keeping her. The second machine will always be handy. Like how will you load the fertiliser with the one tractor

I have a 3 ton digger for pushing in zero grazing and im 500m from local co op. They load my fert.

More than one tractor would be handy. But maintaining older machines would not be fun.

I priced a new 125hp 6125c deutz with a loader.

107k repayments 16k a year over 4 years.

So same money as you have been forking out already and paid for over only 4 years. That tractor would have to be worth a right chunk of money at 4 or 5 year old again.

Sounds like a plan to me IF you are happy to go forward with one tractor.

Ya, that's a good point too, it's handy to let the spreader on one. You would miss the second one, when you get used to 2

if it was me I would get one of the tractors and keep the loader and other tractor. One tractor will rack up savage hours with all the work you do and you’ll be none stop changing machines off it. If you have the loader it can stay doing the winter feeding etc, the other tractor could stay on fert spreader, post driver, mower etc. if you only have the one tractor it won’t be long getting tatty from all the work

Price a local claas dealer, they’re very keen price wise and v good comfortable tractor

It’s going to cost you extra to change the first time, you’ll just have to accept it for what it is and keep it fresh going forward I think

I have been disapointed with my claas arion. Never ending series of error messages and electrical faults. It has cost a fortune to maintain. The Deutz at double the hours has been faultless

you have your answer there then. My BIL has to class 650s and doesn’t get much bother with them. If I didn’t like masseys so much I’d probably be keen on having one myself

Wouldn't be too worried on make to be honest,..all modern tractors can give bits of issues that require plugging into a main dealer laptop so the number one thing to look at is the garage selling you the machine.If you buy a claas just bear in mind that when you want to trade it in again you will most likely have to trade it in for another claas to get a decent allowance on it.Hard beat massey,deere or new holland to hold their resale.B

I would not buy another claas. Im pricing a kubota next week. No idea on prices of other brands yet. Kubota do a 5yr warranty, and 5 year finance.

Have you considered contracting out any of your work? Those are fair repayments and repair bills. Not to mention the time spent.

I cant contract out zero grazing, contractors not reliable enough. The other jobs i want doing on my own schedule not someone elses.

Then you have the unseen jobs, feeding, move a load of slurry, etc etc that you need your own machines for.

The claas arion accounts for largest part of the bills in 2022 and 2023.

Depending on where you are in the country. Massey dealerships seem to have good deals on new masseys. I know of two men who traded in their massey for another one, each one has slightly higher spec but its the same repayments and included five year warranty and five year service.

II'll either go Massey or New Holland next year. My claas is after giving a lot of trouble, luckily it's all under warranty. But I won't be buying another, they're definitely one of the heaviest makes on fuel and one of the most expensive to service.

I'd say you'd be lucky to get 18 to 20k for your claas.

i know a local contractor who bought a new holland for first time in 20 yrs . can't deal with jd anymore. Gone off the charts

What model of Deutz is it? I was told by a Deutz mechanic that the M600 series is the most reliable.
