    Disgraceful scenes.

Surely we need better security around the Taoiseach. Alarming scenes.

Awful carry on ….. I think the Irish state has been too tolerant of this family and their antics ….. their Donald Trump copy cat act needs to be stamped out …. they need to get a life …. the Gardai need to come down on this shower like a tonne of bricks ….. and your man Enoch in the prison needs to be hit hard where it hurts …. take the fine payments from his bank account and stop his salary which I heard he is still being paid despite being incarcerated …. that would get his attention ….

I think Harris should have stood his ground and openly debated it with them instead of running off, it wasn't a mob where there was a risk to life.

There is a decent security presence there but they are not doing much....

Need to take a more French style - Gendarme approach to these Burkes…too soft on these cùnts...

    That'll quieten them....

Debate them? Why should he? Its pointless trying to reason with those people anyway. They'd just scream over him. I agree with other posters that the Gardai should take a stronger line with with them. The softly softly approach is just emboldening them

These types of walkabouts will be a thing of the past before long.

There will be a lot more of these protests happen.

The Gardai wont exactly be too inclined to protect any more politicians. They're fed up with the Irish politicians as well.

A member of an Garda síochána and our taoiseach assaulted in the space of a few seconds and from the video anyway, nothing done about it.

He/She should have been battered up and down the street. You wouldn't get away with it in any other country in Europe.

He wouldn't have been able to, they'd run rings around him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,472 ✭✭✭✭Grayson

Except a garda did get hit. So realistically, there was a risk of physical harm.

They're religious nutjobs. If I was a politician I'd no more debate them then i would any other cult.

    Why?

Wont be long before other protesters realise the publicity they can get by harassing politicians on their walkabouts.

The mobs that are protesting nowadays are not afraid of using violence. The Gardai are going to advise the politicians not to risk a walkabout for fear of violence beginning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,289 ✭✭✭lmao10

Whats needed is a harsh response. If you look closely at the video you can see someone make some kind of swiping motion at the guard with an object. Whoever this person was needs to be dealt with severely for a start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,716 ✭✭✭✭Jim_Hodge

Are you mad? Nobody could debate or discuss anything rationally with them. He did precisely he right thing in that situation. Any politician who spoke with them would be very naive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,965 ✭✭✭gifted

My point exactly....…the Gardai will soon be advising not to have a walkabout....to many chances of violence kicking off

Take it this guy seen in the first video is another Burke sibling, or have they taken on recruits to their cult?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Sir David Amess / Jo Cox come to mind. Only a matter of time until a similar type of incident occurs here. Harassing people in the street/ at their homes is WRONG and the authorities need to come down hard and fast on it.

Nero eats ice cream as Ireland burns. I'm sure we'll be treated to one of his monologues today, telling us how he's a brave man walking the streets and making decisions for team Ireland.

I can't believe he has so little protection. Given what happened in the UK, this is pretty unsettling to watch.

The Burkes are absolutely obnoxious and weird but Simon shouldn't have run away. He should have engaged for a few mins and then walked off. He looked foolish. Leo/Martin would have handled it better.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

He”s still in jail. So plenty of monologues in there.
Time to cut his salary and pension too.
Arrest the rest of them as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,803 ✭✭✭prunudo

i think its a deliberate tactic, riles people up, he gets the reaction, hey presto he can claim for his safety and say people with opposing views are extremists.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,535 ✭✭✭Hangdogroad

What do you think engaging with those freaks is going to achieve?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,803 ✭✭✭prunudo

why call them freaks, they have a different view to you or I. This country is going to a dark place because people can't respect that not everyone thinks the same.

Nothing but it's better than running away and having those weirdos run after you.

The whole Burke family should be jailed. There is no excuse to be carrying on like that in public they are absolutely deranged.

It's rather tedious seeing scum getting defended constantly like this. They accosted the man in the street. If he hadn't had the few Gardaí with him, they might well have done him some serious harm.

And there you go aswell, calling them scum. Bit of an exaggeration to say they'll do him serious harm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,299 ✭✭✭ooter

Why is EB still being paid, did he not lose his hearing/appeal on his dismissal ?

The optics of the leader of the country running away is not great at all, needs to get his security in order if he's going to persist with walkabouts like yesterday.

I had a couple of small interactions with them when they were in UCG. Very self serving and not very 'Christian' at all. And very very weird. The parents should be investigated for mental child abuse. They are ruined now though.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Just calling a spade a spade.

How is it an exaggeration? One of the vermin attacked a Garda in the back of the head.

To be honest, they are just the types that are capable of doing some serious harm as they are so single minded and obsessive.

No normal person would be surprised if they did, and then you’d be down to “sure it was obvious, why were they out and about” or “why had he no protection”

Getting up into someone’s personal space like that is not in. They know he can’t react too. If they did that to a member of the public, they d get it right back.

You’ve just described the Bourkes. They respect no-one else’s opinion and scream and shout every one else down - they are incredibly well educated but have no social skills and do not care about threatening everyone they are opposed to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,401 ✭✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

No I think you read the scene wrong. It wasn't a ploy to curry favour. He panicked. He did not know what to do. He ran and engaged a tiny bit while running. He looked like an idiot. The Burkes always look like idiots so no change there.

As a Galway man I find Mayo people scary at the best of times but the weirdo Burkes bring it to another dimension. 😉

In terms of politics, the run lost FG votes.

    Mayo for Sam.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

They have supported their son/brother being in the Joy over a year now when he could have gotten out any time. By supported, I mean not telling him to purge contempt and get out. I really doubt any other family in Ireland would have done the same. I think it's a deranged mentality. Not encouraging your family member to get out of the Joy when he easily could is… I don't really have a word for it. Quite frankly, I find it a little bit scary. It's just too extreme for me.

I've only seen one video, it be good to get a second angle to piece it together better.

There's a lot af anger at the Government so I think they can expect to get this treatment a lot more going forward, and not only from the Burkes.

I've a particular gripe with my local politician so when she comes canvassing up my street, I'll follow her around the houses and anti-canvass with her.

As long as nobody puts their hands on them or the Gardai or nobody threatens them, a protest is OK in my book.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,176 ✭✭✭spakman

The irony! Its the Burkes who refuse to accept that other people don't share their deranged belief system.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,803 ✭✭✭prunudo

chicken and egg scenario. They have their beliefs and they feel they should be allowed express them. They're best ignored, but in time I think people will reflect differently on how the government and media have treated them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭Oscar_Madison

Genuinely surprised someone hasn’t lost their temper with them and given them a good seen to the way they doorstop and attempt intimidation - but I’d pay top dollar to see it if someone ever did retaliate against them - bunch of weirdos

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,176 ✭✭✭spakman

How have the govt treated them?

They have accosted several politicians who have tried to ignore them which is what you said they should do!

You are calling for respect of different views in defence of people who have abused, shouted, screamed at people with views they disagree with. The Burkes have never shown any respect for anyone who thinks differently to them. They have continuously abused politicians, teachers, judges and gardai.
