Aka a plurality. He didn't win a majority of votes.

I keep seeing this DNC is more liberal statement but how? Socially? That's easy enough to achieve but I seriously doubt economically liberal is on the table. AOC has a mountain to climb to even attempt to push a presidential run and Waltz will most likely be constrained by the big money in politics.

Citizens United made sure that the economically liberal do not stand a chance in either party.

I think Bernie is right in his current objectives. He's largely ignoring the culture war. He's pushing for day to day economic benefits and that strikes a chord with both democrat and republican voters alike. He's actively avoiding "establishment democrats" and supports "independents" who are focused on things like education, healthcare and social security over social issues. I think of people see a genuine improvement on their lives then it becomes much more difficult to use minority groups as a scapegoat.

I wish Bernie all the luck in the world because I think he's bang on with his general message, but he's working against some deeply, deeply entrenched cultural values and general human tendencies.

He says he's for access to education, healthcare and a decent social safety net. Right wing media will say that he wants to tell you where you can send your kids to school, which doctor you're allowed to see and wants to give your tax dollars away.

    1. Make list of all autistic people in America
    2. Deport all to El Salvador without due process
    3. Trump makes announcement that he has cured autism in America - Winning!!

where is Antony Blinking in all of this searching for a democratic candidate?

AOC would be a poor choice for 28 imo. I think she’s a brilliant congresswoman but for her to work, she’d need the entire party behind her and her policies, which isn’t going to happen. Too many senior members of the party are nowhere near as left as her and would staunchly disagree with her on a range of topics.

Also - she’s too young. Not to do the job, but once you’ve been president you’re basically out of the political system. She’s too good where she is to leave that now.

Best case scenario is someone centre left that most of the party can get behind, with AOC gunning for 36.

And it's not going to happen because the Dems aren't actually left wing, they're just left of the republicans

This is the problem with the 2 party system. Having Bernie Sanders caucus for the dems and run in their elections alongside someone like Joe Biden

If this was any other western country you'd have a MAGA party, a traditional Conservative party, a centrist Libertarian party, a left of centre Democratic party, a Green party, a Socialist party, and a bunch of others at the extremes.

Some of these exist but can't compete because the 2 main parties are so large they skew the spectrum.

The dems are at least 3 parties rolled into 1 for me

AOC has several things going against her.

She's a woman, a POC, intelligent, well-spoken, educated and has backbone and integrity.

Not a chance will the average flyover knuckledragger vote for her. It's extremely sad, but that's where we are now. The average voter is like a toddler, you need to jangle a set of keys in their face and make cooing noises. Three word slogans with simple words and repeat, repeat, repeat. Construct a simple reality for voters and give easy answers. Hammer that home non stop. Any difficult questions, waffle and bullsh1t.

There are plenty of educated and intelligent people in the States, but they're not the majority. The majority are barely literate, little education, used to propaganda being fed to them in small, easily digested pieces with little to no critical thinking ability.

The democrats will never be able to tap the sexist, racist, religious extremist market, but your average morons is a possibility. They just have to stop trying to appeal to intelligent, educated people and go for utter morons.

    It worked for Trump.

Honestly yes. It would, IMO, be suitable for the chief to feel how the masses under his control feel when they get the touch of ICE on their shoulders. I was tempted to describe him as a charlatan and a con-man but will stick with chancer as his ability to con people has been slipping lately.

If AOC has no hope of winning against literal fascists just because shes a non white male, then America can get fucked and the rest of the world should just complete the pivot away from them economically and militarily

    Chomsky(2017) on the Republican party

"Has there ever been an organisation in human history that is dedicated, with such commitment, to the destruction of organised human life on Earth?"

According to what's available on the 'net, Vance, who comes from a long line of culturally Protestant Scots-Irish Americans from Appalachia, was baptized Catholic in August 2019. See his "hillbilly elegy" memoir or an essay from in "The Lamp" in 2020, if you want more info. I HAVE NOT read either article by him. I understand converts are harder to shift again once they've changed their faith-beliefs.

They got the name Hillbillies because a lot of Scot/Irish settled in the Appalachian mountains area and being protestants of course a lot of them were called William.

Trump has spent his entire life bullying and shafting contractors. To him the rest of the world are just a bunch of subbies that need the US to survive and he's going to show them who's boss. The US is Trump Inc. and China is just another window or HVAC supplier he's going to shaft. He's in for a rude awakening.

It won't matter, its over for Tesla, and Musk. Europe is done with them. There is a deal on the offing to reduce tarriffs on EV's from China. China is done with him and Tesla. Australia and Canada are finished too. It might slow the bleed but the wound is fatal.

    Not just Europe

The Tesla latest results were absolutely horrendous

This is Tulipmania territory of a company

AOC would get absolutely trounced. She would win places like New York but all the rural states not a hope. Would be an utterly stupid selection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,780 ✭✭✭threeball

Still under investigation for fraud in Canada and a recall of millions of vehicles not yet factored in either. If I had a portfolio of stocks and my fund manager was holding Tesla I'd be looking to have him sectioned.

Intel to cut 20% of workforce

we are in for months and months of American carnage

Her race or sex has little to do with it tbh. A opponents have successfully painted her as a communist that hates America. She has strident uncompromising views and that makes her a polarising figure. And unlike DJT she isn't able to escape it by having people think "she doesn't actually believe that".

The policies that she favours have no hope of being accepted more moderate Trump supporters. This is a group that must be at least partially flipped to win the election.

Blaming her sex or race is a cop out, an excuse to avoid looking at the real reasons. She won't be successful nationally because her policies firmly put her in one camp. She has no chameleon like ability to even speak to the other side, a skill that most US politicians that have national appeal possess.

    PE ratio of 136!

For what is no longer a growth company, yet another quarter of sharp decreases as per my link above and no revenue growth

I just see India slapped 100% tarrifs on foreign EVs a few minutes ago

    Run run far away

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

I’m not sure even an outright sale of Tesla to another car manufacturer thus distancing it from Elon, would save the company- Tesla’s name is muck all over the world now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,780 ✭✭✭threeball

No, its done. They're even falling way behind on battery tech which Musk had hoped was going to be the big thing. Let others make cars but they'll use our batteries. Thats not going to happen and the build quality is crap. The cybertruck was a joke. His HGV was a wash. And theres no chance of self drive ever being a thing in Tesla. A company built on lies and broken promises. Hes the male version of Elizabeth Holmes. A one man Enron

trump is going to flood Space X with government money, that will keep Tesla afloat

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,780 ✭✭✭threeball

It will for a while, but eventually it'll fail once he either falls out with Trump or a new admin gets in. Space X future is not assured either. Their satellites are failing at an astounding rate and he has competition from Bezos, with the Europeans and Chinese entering the arena now as well.

To beat trump you need someone with enough ammo to essentially slag him , his family and his cabinet to the point of humiliation, viewers watching at home should be laughing hard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,951 ✭✭✭✭kneemos

They're under pressure from competitors apparently. Probably more to do with layoffs than Trump.

Irrelevant. Trump has less than four years to do as President. When he goes, Musk will have created very strong political pressure to amputate his grotty company from the state.
