TBH, I doubt Musk can face up to Trump. Few people think he's the genius he's been cosplaying anymore and the RW voters have the Republican party. The time for starting a party was years ago, before everyone knew he was a POS.

If I'm quoting a part of the article, I think it can be fairly assumed that I read it.

As former service members they are perfectly entitled to opine or advocate on the matter of the utilisation of miltary forces domestically as a matter of policy. However, they are also advocating as to the behavior of those forces once ordered to deploy, which is behavior current service members have much less discretion over.

Yea let’s sneer and not listen to traitors who might be talking from experience about being treated like dirt

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 17,069 Mod ✭✭✭✭Manic Moran

Who's sneering? I'm pointing out that some of what they are advocating for is practical, and some is not. Perhaps you could address the practicalities of the issue (you know, things like regulations vs policy, and the needs of the service) instead of making character assessments? I mean, has a single person on here other than you referred to them as traitors, and how does it help frame the discussion anyway?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,176 ✭✭✭✭aloyisious

Pardon me for asking, are you equating disgruntled former service personnel making comments about being treated like dirt with being traitors or are you using sarcasm to make a point? When the common soldiery (former or serving) are not griping is the time for officers to get worried.

Using sarcasm to make point about the deplorable treatment of veterans by the cult of Trump

Does anyone remember when Trump said they would be reopening Alcatraz?

It was pointed out how costly and impractical it was.

Obviously he got the point as that is the reason did is being nicknamed alligator Alcatraz.

It's yet another failed idea dressed up as delivering what he promised

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 30,051 ✭✭✭✭looksee

I looked at a video about Alligator Alcatraz and the responses in the comments were almost all pro-Trump, being very enthusiastic about the project and making very racist and negative comments about immigrants and their round-up.

Some were just ignorant and violent, but some were saying 'this is just a temporary place, they will not be there long' and 'their cases will be heard at immigration courts within the camp' and 'its all new FEMA stuff, if its good enough for people who have been made homeless by disasters, its good enough for them'. Which on the face of it is reasonable enough.

None of them addressed the fact that, going on ICE figures, over 75% of the people arrested by ICE had no criminal background, other than traffic or immigration offences. Or that farming, hospitality etc are going to be badly affected by the lack of employees to do the jobs that Americans don't want. Or that people who are not illegal immigrants - born on American soil, or having legal permits to be in the country, or are legitimately pursuing permission to stay - are also being rounded up.

Some of those replies could have been bots, but Trump and others of the leadership are actively promoting this negative attitude. Its creating a very raw, ignorant, boorish element of the population, the kind of people who are entertained by the AA merchandise. While maybe not as aggressive, the same attitude can be found here and in other countries where immigration is happening.

Politico has an article about deportations https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/12/29/mass-deportation-immigration-history-00195729

And this newspaper report from 1855 shows this is not a new situation, putting the lie to the Statue of Liberty quote even then.

Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Well those in the US who didn't speak out against Gitmo are now seeing indefinite detention of US citizens on US soil.

Not creating. These ignorant, iliterate, homophobic, misogynistic boors were always there waiting for somebody like Trump, ready for that leader that would praise their stupidity and bigotry and make them into what they think they are-heroes in their own twisted, unlettered minds. MAGA has let the trash off the leash.

I wonder if he gave an "Amnesty" for overstayers on visa programs where they could leave with no 10 year ban and bring their money/possessions with them, would he get many takers?

I know a few people who overstayed and now they are in a catch 22 where they can never leave as it would be an automatic ban, some would like to leave but are afraid they would never be able to apply for the visa lottery or any other program so essentially they are trapped into staying illegally or never returning, even for a holiday.

From my own short stay in America I know I met a few like this, mainly bar trade or construction.

No, because it would not show him as a strong and authoritative leader, and it would be no fun.

Give me your hungry, your tired, your poor I'll p1ss on 'em

That's what the Statue of Bigotry says

Your poor huddled masses, let's club 'em to death

and get it over with and just dump 'em on the boulevard

I was watching the black sabbath live stream yesterday and in between bands they showed clips of fans from around the world and the fans I felt sorry for were the Americans with Latino accents

Notice how those peddling “checks and balances” nonsense which now aged like milk left out in Texan sun have now moved onto “only following orders” excuses

While Trump is busy finding creative way of making American citizens into “migrants”

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,158 ✭✭✭yagan

I wonder what escape routes can be developed. It's a long border with Canada and Mexico and ICE will be mostly looking at people entering rather than leaving. Hire a fishing boat in Florida, fly home from Cuba on an Irish passport.

Merely being critical of Trump has led to people being labelled as potential dangers to National Security. One has to ask if Alligator Alcatraz will be used to re-educate the inmates in the way similar camps have been used in the past. Given the education Miller and the other authors of Plan 2025 plan in it for the future of the U.S. I would not be surprised that they would not use the time the inmates spend there waiting for deportation to do so.

The way things are going Trump will try and create his on version of The Purge movie using what he sees as illegals and make it a full on reality TV show by the end of his term.

Winner gets a Golden Green Card that will be revoked just ahead of season 2.

Ninety deals in ninety days??? The only deals Trump can do are meal deals.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,176 ✭✭✭✭aloyisious

3 weeks and 4 days to go, 11 days past any Trump optional two weeks deadline. China excluded. I have wondered if China got an inclusive deal with Trump about its students coming to Colleges in the U.S as part of the tariffs relaxation agreement with his team.

Muak company's rely on government contracts and tax credits musk is the most powerful Private individual in America If he found another political party its probably going to take more votes from the democratic party .Musk has lobbied to change local laws to make it easier to test self driving cars or reduce taxs on his companys

He has criticized the big bill for it's negative impact it likely to lead to 1000 s of hi tech jobs in the solar 🌬️ wind power industry for no good reason

Texas is a right 🍗 ng state but it's invested in solar power to provide more cheap power .

We have seen the flooding disaster in Texas

Doge has sacked workers from all federal agencys including the agencys that provide a network of satellite data that forecast weather storms and floods

Doge go,s to an agency and lays off workers even if some of them are highly qualified experts that may be needed as climate change is causin more extreme weather events like floods and wildfires

As aoc said this bill is the most significant bill in years as it takes medicare from millions of workers and will cause the closure of local hospitals

America is close to being a police system as tech company's send data to Ice and other agencys to help round up people that deport

The political situation in America will change as million of middle class workers lose their jobs and these are the people who pay high tax's and local state taxes

The democrats have no plan what happens when 1000s of middle class voters lose their job to Ai bots

In ten years time it's possible 1000s of people could lose their jobs as tech improves and trucks become self driving

its ironic the big bill will hurt the average make working class worker that voted for trump more than anyone else

    @thereiver

As aoc said this bill is the most significant bill in years as it takes medicare from millions of workers and will cause the closure of local hospitals

And the best part about it for MAGA Republicans is that they'll get to blame the Democrats for the mess they created if the Democrats win the midterms. The cuts don't kick in until Jan 1, 2027.

And if the Republicans win those midterms, it either means that the American public don't care or Trump has control of the elections.

    Win-win-win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,176 ✭✭✭✭aloyisious

So it is best for the Dems to keep the voters fixated on the history of the Big beautiful Bill and its origin, Trump so they don't suffer voters memory loss and forget Trump proposed and had his deputies in Congress get the bill past scrutiny and all legal barriers. Get the operative dateline for the activation of the Medicaid cuts drummed into the minds of those who will suffer from the cuts and copy/paste every comment Trump makes about the Medicaid ingrates on the internet so he drowns in his swamp.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,602 ✭✭✭thereiver

The voters might not realize how deep the cuts are. How many millions of workers will lose medicaid. Medicare The way it works it there various complex ways a person will lose medicaid they will have to fill out various forms with work reporting requirements most people will be unable to complete the paperwork People will lose their medical insurance after the elections are over . The average trump voter does not read complex. News articles about a 1000 page bill and it's various effects on tax credits medical insurance and the the national debt .

Do most voters understand how the 4 trillion increase in the national debt will effect the economy in the next ten years

A 79 year old toddler who eats McDonald's every day, threatens anyone who doesn't like him, only serves to make him and his associates rich, wants to build golf courses in war torn countries, , wants to hokd a UFC match on the whitehouse lawn, doesn't know how to do the job he was elected to do, doesn't know anything about.....anything .

He is a **** dumbass. And the people around him are dumbasses,

How somebody hasn't turned around and told him a he is a **** idiot and to cop on, tells you all you need to know about America.

I despise trump he only cares about rich people or corporations that donate to the gop but he talks to the public in simple basic language that ordinary people can understand one example I,ll deport illegal immigrants and criminals . The democrats don't seem to be able to find a politician who can talk to ordinary people and propose policy's that will help most people . If course trump said he would not cut medicare which he is doing in the big beautiful bill
