MERZ: Tomorrow is the D Day anniversary, when the Americans ended a war in Europe

TRUMP: That was not a pleasant day for you? This is not a great day

MERZ: This was the liberation of my country from Nazi dictatorship

Have to look to his parents and what donations they've made to the party.

I actually don't know if there is a pre-planned procedural process, in the event that some senate members force the inclusion of pork-barrel items in the bill, or even deletion or weakening of other items to get their aye-vote, to let the bill go on to Trump for signature AND not have to revert the bill to the House. After all, it would subtract from their power to do deals for their constituency.

There are one or two US citizens here who would be better situated to answer your question.

As for the Trump factor and him throwing a tantrum with a refusal to sign his big beautiful bill because of any senate changes to it, his staff could remind him that not to sign the bill into effect would give Musk cause to say "I told you so" on X.

I'd love to see this very public breakup between 2 of the most powerful people on Earth as something of a good news story. But to me it just seems like everything else that's happened under Trump 2.0. It's a distraction. Like TMZ levels of idiocy

Have to be honest - I thought the Trump / Musk relationship was going to implode before they got into the White House given their respective egos and selfishness, so managing to keep it going for over 100 days was good going by their incredibly low standards.

LOL at Musk pretending he’s representing the Everyman though. Get to ****, mate.

When Susie Wiles took up the position of Chief of Staff at Trump's White House, some people were surprised as she was in retirement at the time. Throughout her tenure there, she has maintained her work level behind the scenes, preferring work to the lamplight.

Yesterday Trump has praised her, thanking her and calling her "the great chief of staff, the most powerful woman anywhere in the world". The written words accompanying his speech at the W/H soiree [the report's description of the event] read as "one phone call and the country is wiped out but we're not going to say because we're a peace-loving country". Then he points out to where she's standing on the W/H lawn. The camera did NOT pan around to show her face.

He might have handled fertilizer [ammonium nitrate] at some stage in his career. It has more than one chemical application.

I'm honestly baffled that it lasted this long. They're both such toxic narcissists. I thought there was no way they could do anything together.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

    Leviticus 19:34

Surely a hallmark of the toxic narcissist is that they're completely convinced of their intelligence and capabilities, so when they work with other toxic narcissists, they think they're the one in control of the relationship. So, in a weird way, maybe toxic narcissists are really quite compatible, if only for a time.

Anyway, despite the fact that Musk may be officially gone, god knows just how much damage he and his goons have done. What we know about is bad enough, never mind what may have gone under the radar…

This is an open goal for Musk to try and rebuild his image now too, going against Trump as some sort of crusader.

just beeen listening to Trump elaborating further on his Telephone talk with Putin. To me it’s further proof that Putin has something on him or that he needs Russia to win for other reasons eg he hates VZ; a strong Russia in the area - from a geopolitical perspective will help keep China in check or he sees that he can make more money by cooperating with Russia than with Ukr so as a result he does not want to ‘dirty his pants’ with Russia.
Imagine he seeing the war as the equivalent of two school boys fighting in the school yard and you try and ‘pull them off eachother’. But if they both disagree and continue to fight then let them at it until they get exhausted and then they might listen to the ‘ MEDIATOR’ then

Reading between the lines, Trump will pull out of the ‘ mediation ‘ roll being played by the US, help neither side with military equipment and by his utterances, body language and school yard analogy he is giving Putin. The GREEN LIGHT to carry on and do what you like - reminds me of the Green light the the US has given to Israel to continue on the levelling/killing of innocents in Gaza

Last week or so Trump was somewhat perturbed when attacked a number of civil areas in Ukr and killed many - a 23 years- I think the day after the Istanbul meeting . He was clearly angry with Putin. He apparently discussed with Putin this time not to retaliate but gave us the impression that Putin was not agreeing with him. UKR - as Trump said- destroyed Ru equipment only ie bombers, etc, planes and killed nobody.
so , in Trumps eyes , THERE SHOULD BE NO EQUIVLANCE

Hard to believe he's not involved. They were buddies.

No doubt he'll be going ballistic involved or not.

Absolutely, but if he can manage to hole Trump below the waterline how sweet would that be ? I’m surprised Trump hasn’t struck back yet ( that I’m aware of anyway). Surely he won’t be able to resist ? Perhaps some juicy scandal on Musks (alleged) drug use ?

interesting theory that the real reason Musk has turned is nothing to do with increasing the deficit, and more the lack of tax exemptions for electric vehicles in the “ big beautiful bill”. Sounds plausible to me.

I honestly struggle to think what he could have on Trump if we're talking kompromat. It would have to be something so twisted and foul that even a good portion of his most loyal redhats would turn against him. It's been those people's support which has buoyed him through every other scandal and strongarmed congressional Republicans into falling in line.

Or maybe just secret love letters to Hillary Clinton…

I really think it's as simple as he just has a fixated admiration for Putin. Putin's not unique in this regard. Trump has a fairly open admiration for several 'strongman' leaders around the world. I think that Trump and his backers want a world where authoritarianism is the standard form of government. Where an elite rules and there is no threat of it being upended through big wars. So, to that end, they want an axis of authoritarian superpowers in a formal entente and each allowing the other to dominate their geographic neighbourhoods without interference.
