Vayama flights refund.. they said it will take 8 to 10 weeks. Is this even legal?

I bought a flight on Vayama (via Skyscanner)

I know I know, it's better to buy direct from the airline.

Anyway, had an emergency at home and literally cancelled the flight about 10 hours after buying it.

They said the refund will be processed in 8 to 10 weeks.

That is a long time and smells very illegal. Is there anything I can do?

Vayama have to request the refund from the airline, so they're dependent on the airline's processes (on top of their own). Additionally, I assume that's an automated message where you saw the 8-10 weeks stated? They're always going to quote on the long side to cover themselves, you could well get refunded earlier.

I can't see that you can do anything to expedite it. Any legal options would take much longer than the quoted timeframe, even if there was an avenue. You could always try customer service directly, but that's likely just going to be a "computer says no" scenario (especially with an operator using a model like Vayama's)

Fair enough… ish.

I have family on almost every continent and have had to cancel the odd flight over the years for whatever reason. Always got the money back in a reasonable time frame.

This is the first time I've been told to wait 8 to 10 weeks for a refund.

It's also the first time I used Vayama.. which makes me think they're acting the maggot.

What "law" do you think it comes under?

Have you read the terms and conditions which you agreed to and which form the legal aspects of your contract with them?

My guess is you haven't.
