6200 × 5 / 60 / 8 = 64.6 days

If it's people in a company taking a smoke break, maybe they're more productive when they're actually working than they would be otherwise

Depends if the process is truly 100% useless.

There are a couple of checks that I do in my current jobs, which take probably 20 min per day. In themselves, they're not particularly useful. But they mean that someone is looking at an area, and doing some cross-checks. I've spotted a good few related issues while they were still minor and easy to fix.

The first half of a (programming) task takes 90% of the time. The second half of the task takes the other 90% of the time.

The way I would do it is:

5 mins divides into 60 minutes evenly as 12. So I would divide the 6200 by 12 to get 516.6 man-hours.

516.6 man-hours divided by 24 to get the number of man days, is 21.5 days.

Yes 64 man days wasted or 516 hours.

@Mickdw OK, so you and I agree on the 516 hours part. How did you get 64 days from 516 hours?

Edit: It depends whether you call a man-day an 8-hour shift or a 24 hour period. Thats why my figures dont tally with yours, I was dividing by 24. If you divide the 516 hours by 8 for man days as in an 8-hour shift, 516 divided by 8 gets you 64.6.

That's 17 times a day - so once every 90 minutes or 1/18th of your day. Or once every half-hour (1/6th of a standard working day).

That's 61-ish days of a year (allowing for rough estimations) yes - someone is spending 1/6th of their time with this process (assuming the workplace is opperational 365 days of the year).

That's an awful lot of wa^king. 15 times a day per working day @ 5 days per week for 44 weeks and 20 times per day on days you aren't working

6200 × 5 / 60 / 7.5 = 71.11 days

You get 10 public holidays and 20 days annual leave so there's only 230# working days a year, if you take into account training or other down days it's close to a third of year.

#note 2024 has 232 working days because of the leap year and the 53 Mondays and 53 Fridays. 🙄
