Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a disability?

Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council have a grant called the Housing Adaptation Grant for people with a disability that is for people with a physical, sensory, mental health or intellectual disability. It can be used for works like level access showers, accessible bathrooms, access ramps, stair lifts and extensions. Does anyone know anything about this or did anyone have any experience with it? If you were on Disability Allowance for mental health issues and you had a letter from an ocupational therapist, do you think it could be used to cover the re-wiring of a house?

Not sure rewiring would be covered under this scheme.

Ask the council directly I'd say but I imagine it wouldn't cover rewiring, it's meant to improve the day to day life of the person it is awarded for as in make it easier/nicer in some way. Wiring on it's own doesn't really fit the description unless as part of a wider renovation.

If the wiring in the house is dangerous, does asnyone know are there grants that you can get for this?

This Grant is available through all local Authorities. I don't believe it will cover re wiring of a house however, you would have to be upgrading, say a Shower etc. It's worth enquiring directly. Details here

It won't cover rewiring, I don't know where to redirect you to, possibly social work referral or community welfare officer might be able to assist

Does anyone know about the Housing Aid for Older People Grant? It is usually for people over the age of 66 but it says on the Citizens Information site that 'in cases of genuine hardship the local authjority may help people under the age of 66'. Does anyone know?
