It's just basic grass seeds, I have an area of ground behind my house which I want to seed for my grandkids to play on, football and the likes, I don't want to spend money on the upkeep of a good Lawn, which I already have, thanks in advance.

Go to a proper garden centre and get a hard wearing grass .

I'm looking at planting a large enough area; most of it will be used for kids playing football, etc. and I'll keep it reasonably well cut. Not looking for a putting green or anything. Is it okay just to use grass seed like this or will that be too vigorous?

Also, looking to leave some other areas a bit wilder so I was planning to put down a clover-rish mix - any recommendations for what to get? Do I buy a bag of clover seed and mix a bit of grass seed in with it?

I am no expert on lawn seed but that is actually designed to grow vigorously - you would be fighting to keep it suitable to play football on. An all purpose tough lawn seed would be better.

Clover you can buy in smallish quantites - you don't need a lot of it - from Fruit hill farm https://www.fruithillfarm.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=+clover+seed I would not put grass in with it, it will take care of itself and you will get a better mix of types by just letting it sort itself.

Unless you already have that from a different project if you shop around you will get a 10kg bag of lawn seed for cheaper than that.
