this is probably not the right forum for this question. I sometimes hear people say “sure where would he leave it” (I think that’s what’s said) For e.g. about a son who is good at sport and the father was equally good at sport. But I don’t understand the actual wording of it. Like leave what etc.

I would imagine it means 'sure of course he's talented,so was his father'. In other words ,where else would he leave the talent he got from his father only on the field of play.

This would be my best guess too. Or something like where else would the father leave his talent, he passed it to his son. I have to say I've never heard this saying and I got curious now.
