Have my eye on new car - I've found one ideal but it's up in Co. Monaghan , I'm in Munster.

Is it mad buying a car from a place so far away...what are the cons? I'm clueless when it comes to buying cars.

The trader looks OK and seems the real deal.

Plenty do it. I know a few from Louth and Meath who buy their cars in Galway.

You will have a long way to go back if there is a problem that needs fixing under warranty.

    Servicing can be done locally.

You should consider getting someone you trust who knows about cars to look at it.

I have already bought cars in different countries. Keep in mind that if you encounter any issues with the car, you will need to travel to utilize the warranty. However, for me, this was not a dealbreaker. If the car isn't too old, I would still consider it.
When I lived in Dublin I bought a car in Co. Kerry… And now I live in East Meath, I already bought a car in Co. Monaghan and Co. Westmeath. All excellent dealers, I had no issues.

    Good luck

If it's new, a local dealer should be able to carry out warranty repairs. I bought a new Hyundai in a neighbouring county, but have had several repairs under warranty and a recall repair at my local Hyundai dealer.

Living in Monaghan if you want to PM me the dealer, plenty of decent ones in the county.

I have bought cars in the UK twice. If you pick a low milage young car you shouldn't need be too concerned about the warranty. Possibly the most important consideration is paying VRT on it and how that can change the feasibility considerably.

Is it new or used ?

If it's a brand new car or nearly new car with a decent remainder of the original manufacturer's warranty then it doesn't matter what county you buy the car in as your nearest dealer of the same brand, can carry out any warranty work. Servicing also doesn't need to be done by the selling dealer.

If it's a used car and it's a used car warranty from the dealer selling then remember that you might have to get the car back to the dealer you bought it off of to do warranty work. Not so straight forward if the car is broke down and your located at the opposite end of the country.
