This is an image of a radiator TRV valve with the head removed. What is the function of this serated wheel? Is it a flow adjustor? Can it be turned? Some valves have them, some don't. I'm curious

I'd say it's just the nut that compresses the seal of the valve spindle. Some may be a hex head.

Hex heads is what mine have, and it's not adjustable in my case.
