Ukranians returning home for holidays etc

Most Ukranians I know go home on "business" for weeks on end. Many three times per year.

I have a good friend that is going again this week for three weeks. I have told her that Irish people are fed up but I was indifferent. At this stage I think she knows how I really feel. She had a friend visit from Ukraine recently check out UCC/MTU with her son as he may attend here. They expected as they were Ukranian that we would pay up for the son to attend college. Of course they shelved the idea realising this.

It's beginning to annoy me as it really is a slap in the face to the people of this country. We are being treated like muggs.

We are not a hotel.

I'd be interested in hearing peoples views on this.

Know someone who had a Ukrainian mom& child in part of her house. They spent more time in Ukraine going back for month or two at a time.

The child was not going to school when here so they ended the rental agreement. They felt better to make accommodation available to someone who really needed and wanted it

do you think it make sense to travel back to where your fled from on holidays several times a year?

We have bent over backwards for Ukranians. Quite literally turned the country on its head and this is the repayment.

So rocket attacks blowing people up in Kiev and they will probably become more and more frequent. A Ukrainian who fled the country because Russia, those ruthless c**ts who have massacred civilians (mass graves have been found), invaded their country, visits for whatever reason without the intention of staying there. I don't get the big deal myself.

I wouldn't see much of a future in Ukraine myself so would get my family the f*ck out of there if I could right now and come to places that are accepting them like Poland, Ireland etc. If I could afford to visit and thought I might be safe for a week or two would I? Maybe. I don't get why people are so offended by this. Irish people left in their droves during the last recession, how many of us would leave if the country was invaded by bloodthirsty Russians? Lots of people left the North during the troubles, I'm sure they still visited occasionally.

Those nasty Ukrainians fleeing a war, many areas of their country flattened and thousands dead. Don't they know the real victims in all this are the poor Irish lads who don't like foreigners.

No we are not a hotel. There should be no problem with sheltering genuine war refugees on the same basis as they are received in other EU states. And on the basis that they return when peace is restored there to a reasonable level.

We have no reason to offer shelter to those who want to go back & forward from Ukraine. When we had war refugees during the Emergency it would have been unthinkable for them to return for a few days.

paying taxes to look after people with no connection to ireland.

my eldest shares a house with 3 Ukrainians. no job just boozing away daily.

Maybe not representative because I'm told the Ukrainians are the best people in the world ever.

I just don't know them beyond a few kids in the local GAA and the two the eldest shares with.

But sound our not , I'm sick of paying got them and all the fake IPAS people .

If you're fleeing from a war or persecution and claiming status on this basis - you shouldn't be going back.

I remember speaking to some back in March 22, and their view was 'sure, they're only here for a few months until it all gets sorted out'.

Now they're appreciation of Russian/Ukrainian geopolitics would be limited, even more framed by just watching RTE or reading the Indo/IT. As we progress into year 3 of this arrangement, it is no wonder opinions are changing. Unless of course you are still benefitting from having one of your surplus properties being funded nicely out of the State's coffer, thank you very much.

As per the reduction this year in amounts of money given to Ukrainians, suspect government will start to tighten rules around travel. These things usually take place about a year after the general population start making noises. So expect nothing until 2025.

Irish people left for economic reasons.

Ukranians left because of they feared for their lives.

Irish people took them in, looked after them, rallied behind them.

Now many Ukrainians head off holidaying in the places the fled.

i'm sure plenty of ukrainians left for economic reasons too, have you spoken to many? i doubt there are many economic opportunities there for a lot of people right now due to the situation at hand. Watch 20 days in Mariupol if you want to see the reality of the war over there. Normal people with normal lives one day and suddenly there's blood and guts and ruins all over the place. I know I'd be getting the f*ck out of that country ASAP if I could because Russia may yet do to Kiev what has already happened in Mariupol the way things are going.
