The findings that some tribunals of inquiry made in the 1980s - the one of 'probable arson' about the Stardust fire and the one made against Joanne Hayes in the Kerry Babies case - have since been removed by amendment to the public record.

Was there no means of challenging those tribunals' findings in the courts in the 1980s and, if there was, then why was no case taken?

Costs, and perhaps the belief at the time that the findings of the tribunal were correct.

You can challenge the means by which the finding was made, not the finding itself. That is what happened in the case you have referenced.

The point is that the finding in the case that I cited was quashed. That's what I meant by a challenge to the finding.

It wasn't substituted by another finding. That's what I meant by a challenge to a finding. There is no reason why the same finding couldn't be made by the same tribunal again, if it got its act together.
