Fitting a roofrack

I bought a roofrack and when fitting it realised that it would interfere with the door seal. Should I nick it with a scalpel and maybe add a blob of mastic at each side?

It is specific for my year and model of car but the supplier (I won't say who) doesn't have a drive in facility or a phone number. The email is answered electronically telling me they are on the case - only they aren't.
