Very lucky escape - outside freezer went on fire

23 year old Hotpoint larder freezer caught fire tonight and I happened upon it by pure luck. Any ideas why it caught fire and is there any possible damage to the cooling system given it happened at the door?

Hard to tell from photo, but it looks like there may be indicators and hence a control circuit board positioned where the overheating occurred. If so, probably a rectifying component might have blown or a related solder joint cracked over time.
