I am searching for the pub at highest elevation in Connaught as a cycling challenge this summer.. Where is it, nothing shows up definitive on google maps.. It looks like a lot of population centres of connaught are all low lying so its hard to see where it might be. If I dont find the highest pub, I might have to settle for the one at foot of the reek, but hopefully someon can help ne out.

Best I have found is Carolans in Beallacorrick but its long closed..

The closest I can think of is Leonards of Lahardane

Had a quick check of a topo map and it looks like a pub in Knock to me

Do you want a proper pub or would the fully licensed bar at the Sláinte Barista Cafe in Knock Airport qualify? It has an elevation of 203m according to this and is open to the public.

Interesting one. Thinking about it myself there are very few rural pubs I know in mountainous areas of Mayo such as Nephins, Ox Mountains, Maamturks or Partry so therefore the most likely candidates are somewhere in the hilly parts of East Mayo like Aughamore or Knock as above or the likes.

Knock airport would make a very symbolic pub. Thanks…

    ? Maire Lukes near Tourmakeady

Teach Chonghóile in Ceathrú Thaidhg at ca. 107m seems to be the highest in Mayo. The others suggested vary from 30m (Larches) to 54m (Inish Turk) to 57m (Maire Luke's).

Actually, now that I think about it is there a bar at Knock Airport??

This may not be the highest (around 100m I think), but it is a nice one, great views.

That's it Teach Chonghóile in Ceathrú Thaidhg. Beautiful distinctive spot

I'd say Egans Bar in Derrybrien is up there as the highest in Connacht. Excuse the pun.

Roads are a little dangerous for biking it though

According to the maps thats at approximately 162m and Teach Chonghóile is only at 107m so that's a big jump!

    Are both pubs still open?

So hoping to check out teach Chonghóile this week! .. Bringing the big measuring tape, so let's see.

Drove buy Teach Chonghoile, looks great and wonderful view, but alas was closed during my visiting hours.. From map comparision, derrybrien looks higher and now having trekked out to north east mayo, it might feel easier picking the pub peak in east galway if I was cycling it
