Lost my old 085 number years ago - any way to get it back?

It's been over 10 years since I lost the Meteor sim and used the number. I have an old email account that was secured with this number too.

Would it have been released back into circulation? Is it possible to go to an Eir store and ask them for my old number? Do they let you customise it, assuming it's not taken?

Yes, numbers do get put back into the mix when they are dormant for extended periods of time.

Lots of stories of ppl ringing the phones of their dead loved phones, for self soothing reasons, and being horrified when someone answers.

Have you tried ringing the number yourself? Stick a 5 in front of the number and see if there is an active voicemail setup:

085 5 XXX XXXX

I have called the number and it's saying 'The number you have called is not recognised' and the voicemail trick just said it doesn't correspond to a voice mailbox. So I guess it's a dead number?

You won't get anywhere on the normal support channels. You'll have to talk to someone with more authority, that I do not know how to do but you'll just get fobbed off from a regular support agent.

Requesting a specific number I know was something meteor offered when I worked there but it def was more expensive. But it is a documented process

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm going to give one of the Eir stores a call this morning and enquire if they can help me from there. I don't really know what number to contact someone in Eir that could help me.

Edit: Just called Eir and they said they can't give me that specific number, or indeed any specific number. It'll be randomly generated and no chance to get it customised. It's not something they do apparently. End of the road I think. Thanks everyone.

Order a replacement sim for the original number? If it's registered in your name, you should be able to reactivate it…..

Doesn't work like that, the number has been terminated already, aka doesn't exist anymore!
