Planning on changing in the next couple of months. Leaning towards crossover/suv type, never owned one previously and would like to try. Will be looking for something around the 2017-2018 years.

Open to anything really, no brand preferences. But maybe someone here knows issues etc from around that period with certain brands/specs. Open to any advice

List in my head is probably something from Kia Sportage- Hyundai Tucson - Renault kadjar - ford Kuga- VW Tiguan - Seat Ateca

    Budget around the €20,000 mark

No expert but I know a few people who have a Sportage and they never seem to have any major issues so they seem a fairly reliable option

I would remove Renault Kadjar and Ford Kuga from the list. I do think they are reliable. You could add HR-V to the list, it's are more reliable than all cars from your list.

I've a 152 Tucson 2 years now and love it. I did have to get work done on the gearbox recently, the synchro is a known issue for the Tucson and Sportage apparently. Set me back €800. Had an ABS ring go as well but I don't know if that's a Tucson issue or just something that can happen on any car.

I'd have no problem buying a Tucson again but I do like to change so will probably look at the Sportage, Tiguan, or if budget allows, a Rav4.

All fairly standard Crossovers so normally it comes down to personal preference

THe Kadjar/Qashqai are the same car, the Sportage/Tucson, Ateca/Tiguan area all the same as well underneath just with different interiors.

So years ago I tested the Sportage and Tucson and my wife preference was the Tucson as she liked the interior better.

Only thing I have heard of is some Tiguans with a sunroof have issues with leaking because of a spider trap they have, easy fix and plenty of info on web.

Have a test of them all, see which one in terms of interior suits you best and then check into any major issues.

I have a 2017 Kadjar for the past 6 months and really like it, this is my 4th of 5th Renault with the 1.5DCI 110 engine, and once serviced regularly they all have had no major faults .

With your budget OP you could get into a facelift Kadjar 2019 , with a better interior , carplay and android auto too
