Does anyone know where to start in terms of importing a new brand of alcohol (which is not currently available here)?

I have looked on revenue.ie and there are limits in terms of having to import goods on your person but if I want to commercially import alcohol, what are the costs?

it is a good while since I handled alcohol imports, but from memory you need to set up a “wet bond” with customs.. When the alcohol arrives you will need to arrange a bonded transfer from the port or airport to your bond.. And when you sell or transfer the alcohol out you will need to issue paperwork also.. One of the specialised customs brokers like Beagans in Dundalk or MCC brokers in Store st would likely be the best people to approach and they can help you through the process.. Some freight forwarders also specialise in Alcohol( a Hartrodt) but most wouldn’t be fully up to speed with excise moves

Are you importing from the EU or outside it?

It's from outside the EU, NZ to be exact

+1 on what Andrewfaulk said above. It doesn't reallym atter much where it's from. Revenue will tell you what type of bond is acceptable to them. It can by provided by an insurer or a bank (Customs Bond) . Usually the bank will deduct the amount of the bond from your OD facility. Unless it's major quantities you are best dealing through a bonded warehouse.

I am with one of the companies mentioned on the thread. We ship from NZ, Chile etc for clients. There are several wet bonds you can talk to, or you can import duty paid. Happy to discuss options with you. Duty varies depending on alcoholic content.

Message me if you wish, and I can give you names of who to speak to in the various wet bonds, applicable duties and sea freight costs.
