Yes it takes time for a potentias Freemason to have his application processed. There is a few processes it has to go through and considering most Lodges meet once a month (except June, July & August when they don't open) it can take up to 6 months ort longer.

    I'm a Master Mason.

Yes, it takes ages to join, and its for good reasons. Lodges are where guys from all walks of life come together, form life long friendships, seek to be the very best versions of themselves, have some great craic and all whilst doing some very honorable and charitable work . What's important to every Lodge is peace and harmony….so just as an employer will interview potential candidates for a role, scrutineers are charged with making sure anyone joining Freemasonry is doing so for the right reasons and wont create conflict.

The process is quite drawn out. So from initial enquiry to when you receive the degree of Entered Apprentice, it'd take approximately 6 or 7 months.
