Can you bring a cork-screw bottle opener in hand luggage?

Hi all,

Flying to Germany this weekend - as the title says... can you bring a bottle-opener / cork-screw in hand luggage? It does have a tiny blade, like this: https://media.nisbets.com/asset/core/prodimage/large_new/cz465_new1.jpg

I'm guessing 'no' because of the small 'blade', but would appreciate your opinions!

No is the answer. Security will take it off you.

You will pick up a cheap one in a supermarket, or poundshop type shops. Note, all stores and supermarkets are closed in Germany on Good Friday, Sunday and East Monday. The odd petrol starion is the only place you'll find open.

Blades (of some types - box cutters are banned with far less than 6 inches of blade), yes. Screws - erm, no. There isn't a specification for that, but its a pointed object, which are not allowed.

My husband packed a corkscrew in my hand luggage, they asked me did I pack my bag and I said ye, then they showed me the corkscrew. They confiscated it

It is a "sharp item", it doesn't need to be called out on the "including..." list as such

Luck of the draw security wise if you got one through, some people don't apply the rules. I did a round trip to Amsterdam with a full soft drink bottle in a bag that wasn't noticed in either airport.

I could see someone letting a lever handle one through, rather harder to ram in to someone's neck then a waiters friend type. Still doesn't mean it's on an allowed list or you'll consistently get let through

I’d agree with you but they are generally quite restrictive and little point in arguing. I once brought a Ring camera through security without knowing that there was a drill bit in it. Absolutely no question in their mind that it was a banned item.
