Can anyone recommend some decent patches from somewhere please? I always just swap in a new tube but my father refuses to do this and the last couple of batches of Ebay/Poundshop ones I got him have been complete trash.

I've been using the ParkTool patch kit for a good few years and never had an issue with them, good quality:

Have used their self adhesive patches also along with the equivalent from Topeak and while convenient have had a few fail after a number of months use.

I bought the below kit a few months ago and while it looks good with everything you need I haven't had cause to use it yet. I could also do with an extra tube or two of solution given the number of patches in the kit:

I bought a long roll of patch material off Dara in Bee Cycles years ago and I'm nowhere near running out. You don't get nice feathered edges (you cut patches out of the roll for the size you want), but totally functional.

Don't forget, you need to sandpaper the punctured area first in order to get the patch to stick well.

It's not part of the original question, but if you do use tubes of vulcanizing fluid, there's a good tip for preventing the fluid solidifying during what are typically long-ish periods of disuse. If you push out a visible blob of fluid hen you're finished patching, and screw the lid closed on top of the blob, it doesn't seem to dry out at all. Think it's the air reservoir in the lid and top of the tube that causes the chemical reaction that makes the fluid "dry out". If you additionally put it in in a plastic wrapper/baggie of some kind it probably helps too. I do both, and the fluid lasts for literally years now. (Assuming the lid isn't cracked, and the crimped end of the tube doesn't leak, but that hasn't happened to me.)

I've used Rema Tip Top many times and never had one fail. I've had tubes with half a dozen patches.
