Smart meter. Opt out options

I currently have a dual plan with electric Ireland with 24 hour rate for electricity. I also have a smart meter. I am thinking of moving to energia smart day and night dual plan. Their vat inclusive day rate is 30 cent and night rate is 17 cent. Their 24 hour rate is 28.31 cent. Given that my heating and oven are gas and that I am not overly comfortable with running washing machine and dishwasher at night for safety reasons I think a 24 hour rate would make more sense. If I did choose the day/night rate could I opt out of that in future to a smart meter 24 hour rate (with same or different supplier). Thanks in advance

Don't go smart meter tariffs. You can get a non smart day night meter from Flogas with 28c day and 12c (11pm-8am) night rate.

The night rate and the night storage heater are both 12.35.

Good luck signing up for it if you're not already with FloGas on the BWG/Community deal etc.

After reading this, out of contract with SE Airtricity and Bord Gais and moving over to their dual deal. Everything bar the annual charge on electricity is cheaper with flo gas.

Anythign i should be careful of while switching? Im switchign over via bonkers.ie and i have a smart meter but dont want a smart meter plan

To get a day/night rate you need a MCC02 meter. This is not a smart day/peak/night meter.

If your smart meter is not activated then it is acting like a 24hr MCC01 meter.

If you have an EV and/or solar batteries, the smart plans from Energia (7.5c)/ Pinergy (5c) have night rates for peanuts and it's a no brainer, especially with the generous FIT.

Even without an EV and/or solar batteries it might work out the best option.

Work out your usage and shop around. Everyone's needs and usage patterns are slightly different.
