Reasonable full car service charges?

    Hello,

I am not to sure if I am being overcharged or if the prices are reasonable?

Went to a car dealer garage for a Hyundai i20 for a full service. It costing €360. 18 months ago in same place full service was €200. Also they advised back breaks and discs needed to done for €460. I had an NCT in January and another garage did the front breaks and said the back breaks and discs were fine. I understand there is a time difference but I wouldn't think the breaks would go back that quick and didn't notice anything bad about the breaks when driving.

I understand car dealer garages are more expensive, but I just have a gut feeling I am being overcharged? Am I wrong.

    Many thanks in advance.

Never get repairs done at main dealer prices.

Service costs depend on what is due at that mileage or age. Check the paper maintenance book that comes with the car to see what actually needs doing. You can also shop around between dealers of same brand.

I think all checks , Oil & oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, engine fluid , and something about flushing fluids.

i do my own and familys cars,i get the oil, filters, plugs, for petrol cars for around 80 euro, and for diesel cars around the same,my niece in dublin, was quoted a price of 480 for service and front and rear brake discs/pads,when she visited i looked at brakes, they were barely worn,so she was being done,i serviced her toyota auris for 80 euro, some places will fleece people whom they think know nothing about cars...also ive never flushed any fluids from cars, just keep it topped up

Main dealers are chancers. Had my car in for a service with a Ford dealer last year. Was told that the bushings were worn and needed to be changed or the car would fail the NCT. Had the NCT a few weeks later. Talked to a couple of mechanics and was told that the dealer was chancing there arm. So I didn't get them changed. Sent it in for the NCT and the car passed. A lot of dealers will tell you anything to make money
