    Hi folks

Iv a cow that calved last Saturday night, but her calf hurt herself and hasn't been able to suck,

Tha calf is showing signs of getting going but might be another few days or longer

My question is, how long more will the cow have milk for or is she dried up already, and don't suggest milking her out every day !!

Depends on the breed, some of those well bred Charolais, limousine and other continetal cows can be poor milkers and don't take long before going out of milk, but worse case it would still take 3 weeks from calving before they'd be fully dry.

If theres any dairy in the cow then it they can come back into milk after not being sucked for over 6 weeks.

Biggest issue is mastitus, any cow that you don't dry off you should by right be drawing the milk off her until the calf can suck.

How have you been feeding the calf if it’s not able to suck? Unless it’s a mouth or jaw injury could you not help it suck for 15 minutes twice a day and all be grand.

Get one of these and milk out the cow every second day.

Why not suggest milking her? How are you feeding the calf? Anytime we need to feed a calf for a period of time like this we milk the cow a few times a day and give it to the calf.

Get a strong calf and let it drink her, what is her own calf surviving on?

I'm bottling her own calf at the moment 3 times a day, putting another calf on her could be a good idea ,
