Hot Chocolate in Coffee/Tea Shops

I love hot chocolate. Unfortunately I find that coffee shops seem to only serve warm 'Hot' chocolate, is there a particular reason for this? I have asked for it to be heated up a few times but its getting monotonous now its so often.

People have different temperature tolerance, I guess yours is above the average.

You should be more specific, what is hot to you? Preferably in °C .

Absolutely no idea in degrees centigrade, but I'd like it served at hot as a pot of tea.

I guess because hot chocolate is made with milk they don't want to burn the milk

Typically, cafes (at least, good ones), won't let milk steam beyond 60-65C. This is because milk develops a nasty, sulfurous flavour as it gets very hot, which may be masked by sugary drinks but not other milk drinks. You could always ask for it extra hot, but the fact is, milk burns past 70C and some cafes may not be willing to serve a burned drink (like asking for food to be burned may not be appropriate). Of course, you could add boiling water to your drink, which is probably more efficient than asking for a drink to be reheated. Sometimes, a hot cup can also make a drink feel hotter. (when I worked in coffee, we'd sometimes scald a cup when someone asked for an extra hot drink and this seemed to satisfy them)

The ideal temperature for hot chocolate is 54-60c. Anything hotter and the flavour of the chocolate is destroyed. Coffee is best served at 70-80c.

a lot of the time in coffee shops , hot chocolate orders are for kids. I often order them for my kids along with my own coffee. If you specify it’s for an adult and you want it extra hot!?

The server can see I'm not a child. I shouldn't really have to say its for a adult and I wouldn't have children with me.

Scalding the cup could answer the problem. I often do it at home during winter, and bowls for soup as well. Thanks.
