Any downtime with Sky?

Housemate is moving out so I am taking over the broadband and telly. They are with sky and I'd like to stay with them myself. They've notified of cancelling but I've been told by sky that there is a downtime of 2 weeks if I go with sky broadband. I can go to another provider and it'll work right away. It works out more expensive going with different providers for broadband and tv so ideally I want to go with just one. I want a tv box I can record with so this is why I want sky. Virgin is not available where I live yet.

Any advice on the best way to go?
