Ideas to hide unsightly pole

Hi, I'm living in a bungalow built in 2004. There's an ugly piece of pipe masquerading as a design feature (see attached). Any ideas how to cover it up?

Wow.. well the obvious suggestion would have been to colour match to the house but that hasn't fully worked somehow.

Any idea what's inside? Does it need to be accessible?

Could box it in and create a mock porch column type solution. Depends on the rest of the house aesthetic but similar to below idea:

Wow indeed, looks like something out of Dr Who.

Would be fairly simple to screw a timber frame around it, clad and paint.

Long term it's worthwhile building a porch incorporating and hiding it altogether.

What is it for? The gutter? Or isn't a vent for your sewer pipe?

Looks like it's covered with corrugated plastic pipe.

Can you remove the cover and add either wood or stone cladding?

I looked at that and thought it looked far to sharp, imagine compacting that so there were no voids or bubbles? Then if you look at the plastic pipe you'll notice that if it was used as a form the ridges would be narrower because of the thickness of the plastic.

Also near the bottom where the blue paint is chipped that looks like black plastic underneath.

OP needs to tell us if that is plastic or concrete.

I think it was used as a form, but they never removed the form!

Which means the simplest solution might be to cut it off and just have a standard concrete column that you can paint.

I'm sure there will be void that might need to be filled though.

A soil vent coming up right outside your front door in the middle of your path would be quite the design feature.

It's a structural column holding up the gable over the door.

It's a corripipe used to pour the concrete into. The pipe is still left in place.

The inner of those pipes are relatively smooth so if pipe removed, it would be a half decent round concrete pole.

just cut off the plastic pipe will be concrete inside, send us on a pic, see how bad it looks, who was the lazy fecker who poured it and just walked away 😀

Directly outside the front door ain't exactly the greatest spot for a column. The pipe was possibly deliberately left in place for a bit of safety for when people not used to the house inevitably rush out the door and plough straight into it, at least they hit a few mil of 'softer' plastic before the concrete.

Assuming you're looking to spend little to no money OP, choice is between leave it as is and paint it some mad colour to make a proper contrasting feature out of it, or remove it and hope the concrete under it is a nice smooth finish and still be left with a concrete column.

More expensive options might include replacing it altogether with a porch or similar, or after removing the pipe, getting it plastered to resemble a more architectural column design of your choice.

That is absolutely woeful. Another indictment of some of the shite that was "let go" back in the day (and still to this day on certain developments!

As others have said I would either try and square it off or try and "circle" it off. Taking off the pipe and filling in the grooves, repaint OR square it off completely.

Remove plastic if it is indeed still there and then wrap it in ceder battons oil finish.

Paint that door, then paint the house. It will modernise the entire look.

Before cutting the pipe away I would suggest checking if it has any function other than a buffer. Was it repositioned? I am looking a the circular shape in the concrete directly in front of it

Is there anything visible from the attic space above it if there is such a space?
