Virgin Radio in Ireland

I have started listening to Virgin Radio a lot recently. I like the music and most of the presenters. In work, I have it on on my laptop. At home, it’s either in the TV through satellite dish or on my phone via their app.

Two things I notice is their WhatsApp number is +44…… so it looks like they purposely include non U.K. listeners but secondly the ads are Irish ads. I wonder are they location based or again targeting the Irish market?

I'd say you stick to the internet and the phone.

One way for Virgin Radio to come back to Ireland would be DAB+, but that's a "sort of forbidden" technology in Ireland, albeit the cost of transmission would be cheap.

They could be replacing the ads on the online stream. I remembered listening to a geoblocked US station via a VPN, and the ads were all for services in NYC, where the VPN was connecting to, even though the station was nowhere near it.

Yeah you are right. I turned on a vpn last night to England and the ads were all English ads

It's common practice with online platforms.

I have a WiFi kitchen radio and get ads for businesses in Northern Ireland even when listening to radio stations from Germany.
