Considering replacing wired alarm system

Is there any value in keeping the current system in place, or is what I'm considering pretty standard for an older system?

Yes there's value in a wired system
It's generally simpler and more reliable

It is cheaper and no batteries need to be changed periodically in sensors. If the existing system is working look at getting the panel upgraded to allow for remote access.
