Considering replacing wired alarm system

We're having some of our windows replaced and, before the installation, the window company require the window sensors to be removed. The system is wired and unmonitored and looks quite old. I'll be getting an electrician in to remove the sensors and I'm thinking I'll get him to remove the entire system with the idea of getting a wireless system.

Is there any value in keeping the current system in place, or is what I'm considering pretty standard for an older system?
