I know this is probably arriving this year?

I'd much prefer a series based in current trek Picard series time

I just have my doubts about the production team behind this plus I think they went way too far in the future with discovery

Likely not until 2025, if it ever actually becomes a thing at all. Still no cast attached, and things have gone quiet on development.

Fingers crossed they decide to put their resources towards something more worthwhile.

The one positive thing about Picard series is that it moved trek forward from the next generation films instead of fxxx prequels.

Though season 3 of Picard was good.

If they do move it forward please please lose the dark sets. Go back to the STNG model of some hope and positivity which DS9 had too and SNW

Particularly when they just wipe out ~120 years worth of warp travel in the middle of that period with as pointless a contrivance as 'the burn'.

They couldn't just ruin the 'Trek' past, they had to ruin the future too.

I still find it beyond laughable that a 900 year old ship and crew just slot in a future timeline like they belonged there. I know the burn could be explained away as a period of no tech development, but it's still abysmal writing.

Remember Scotty having a hard time adjusting to things on the Ent-D after a 90 year gap...this shower were practically saving the future after ten times that gap. Absolutely pathetic.

Completely , plus for me it kind of takes away from the other shows (slightly) that are set in the past , when rewatching in the back of your head you’re thinking “ this is all pointless sure in 900 years it will all be gone” it was just bad all around , the writing , acting ah I’d be here all night haha and with strange new worlds being so good too , they need to leave prequel shows behind though.

They won't but the next era of Star Trek will. Some show will sit in the gap and "wreck Disco canon" and all the Disco fans will be crying about it being "not real Trek"

Ye hopefully this never happens especially if it's set 900 years in the future. Now if they want to do it with a young kirk and crew and then a young Picard and crew that would be ok with me but not this nonsense one.

The way this concept has basically disappeared into the ether, I'd question if it's still going ahead at all; IIRC there were never that quantifiable a rumbling that the show was greenlit, and certainly if there was anything planned it likely won't hit screens 'til 2025 at the very outside.

Though he was insistent on not revealing when the series is set, that information does lend itself to the theory that Starfleet Academy is a Discovery spin-off. Season 4 saw Mary Wiseman's Tilly take a trip to the newly re-opened Academy in the 32nd century and developing a strong interest in teaching.

I say this as someone who likes Tilly: Aww hell no!

That's why we all know this show will be just terrible. Hopefully something happens before it gets underway and it gets cancelled. I woukd prefer they use the resources abd defends that woukd be wasted on this for SNW and Lower Deck as well as a new film instead.

I'm not a fan of a Starfleet Academy show in general but if they were to do it then it really should have been around the BermanTrek era as the San Fransisco Academy is what would co.e to mind for most people.

Given the apparent re-use of assets going on, it's not beyond likelihood that this show will be set during that era; they'll already have the sets, uniforms etc. Christ if they absolutely must have Tilly it's not like they can't have some time-travel shenanigans to get her back to the Academy circa Berman => Picard S3.

Even in the unlikely event they set it in the Berman era, one things for sure, the writing wouldnt harken back to that era anyway. This SG1 joke (nearly twenty years old now itself!) ALWAYS springs to mind when considering Trek trying to recapture it's glory days...

Ah Farscape; the greatest SciFi show with the highest bar to get over. Stargate mocked its barely intelligible babble but it was true; the thing that made it brilliant also made it a required taste.

It gets pretty serialised about half way through so it's probably better to start from the beginning and endure the rough first season. Crichton swearing leather trousers is Farscape's version of Riker growing his beard

I will say the same thing that gets repeated with manys a Sci-Fi: you need to give the entirity of the first season a go. It's not til the back half that the show finds its identity and direction. Until then it was a bit scattershot, and even a little too warmed-up Trek in places. Once scorpius asserted himself and the stakes got properly established, the show took off.

I have tried. It's just my hearing is not the best so I need subtitles and anytime I seen and tried to watch it on the TV on whatever channel it was on it did not have subtitles so that was the end of that.

I get what you mean about Babylon 5 though; if ever a show was in dire need of some remastering love, it's that show. Cos otherwise it's a helluva a gap to jump.

I've once more been mainlining BSG clips thanks to the YouTube algorithm, and it's quite something how well those 20+ year FX still hold up. The CGI cylons can be so-so but the ship FX are still very convincing.

Farscape's production values were really great at the time I thought. Bit dated now for sure though I think some of the season 3 stuff still holds up well. Far better than Babylon 5 anyway.

Was a massive fan of it in its day (got my username from there) though a lot hasn't aged well unfortunately.

By production I don't just mean the FX and sets. I found the acting quite camp or hammy in the shows I mentioned too.

Ah yes the acting was the part that really didn't age well for me. The "peacekeeper wars" miniseries was really bad in that respect.

They had a pretty narrow pool to chose from to be fair. The guy that played DK did get a lot better, he was Frank in the Last of Us

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is a bit cumbersome a name. Don't think they need the Starfleet bit.

Not sure I want the Doctor in there. I bet it's just lifted from a fanfic idea that the Living Witness Doctor would be returning around now.

After nonsense like Kovich being Daniels, pandering to the Calypso fans or the desperate attempts to make something of a few glances between TOS Spock and Chapel in SNW or Picard and Crusher I wouldn't be confident.
