Pension for Widow

Hi All

Have been confused by the info online so hoping someone might know the answer.

My father in law passed away 2 weeks ago, he was in receipt of an army pension. My query is whether his widow is now entitled to half of that pension?

My mother gets a defence force pension after my dad died. They were married for a long time, though. I found some information here if it's of any help to you.

Possibly, the easiest way to find out is to contact them, Department of Defence, Áras an tSaile, Renmore, Co. Galway, H91 AN 2E. Phone 091743900

He possibly may have received a regular pension payslip type of thing, there will probably be a pension number or member number on it, that will identify him on their system & what his widow’s entitlement may be & go from there, if yes, you’ll probably have to submit some paperwork, death certificate, marriage certificate etc, they’ll guide you through it

l have no experience of the army specifically but was in a similar situation a few years back with a different state employer & if entitled, it should be pretty straightforward

Im not sure.if the widow would be entitled to social welfare pension. I think pre 95 wouldn't have contributed to stamps for this but can always check. it's more likely an occupational pension from army and think most would be entitled to widows pension there
