Working in NI and living in the republic or vice versa

Is this something anyone does?

I have no intention of doing this but always wondered what it would be like in terms of finances.

Let's say you live in lifford and work in Strabane. Are you paid in sterling and required to have a sterling account?

Are you constantly changing currencies or maybe your employer just pay in euros?

I remember when I closed my Halifax account the counter staff told me i wouldn't be able to open a new account with them now that my address was in the republic.

Any quirky stuff about a lifestyle like that?

It’s very common for people living in Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan and Louth to live and work in each jurisdiction . I don’t get what your point is or asking .

You have two bank accounts and transfer money between them, and withdraw cash for whatever you need . I don’t think residency is an issue on either side

I'm living in both, not sure you're required to have a NI account but with the exchange rate, its doesn't make much sense transferring it to my ROI account so I just have 2 bank accounts

I'm not constantly changing as I have sufficient money in both accounts, might be different for someone who's living off their NI income though

With brexit, I'm not allowed to open up any additional accounts (like savings account) under my Southern address, but I'm fine as I have a Northern address too so doesn't impact me

It is reputed to have a border with Fermanagh. Fermanagh's lack of success in Ulster GAA is down to the population mix and geography. One half of the county is Protestant, and the other half is water.

Fermanagh is a tourist destination. The same is never said about Leitrim. A place you drive through…..if you have too.
