Storm force 10 tonight on the sea area forecast, yet no orange warning. I think that's a first?

A very windy and wet night in the southwest and west. Mace Head gusting to over 100kmh and 34mm of rainfall recorded at Valentia. Saturated ground conditions resulted in localised flooding throughout the region. Drier than average conditions on the way over the next week.

Widespread sunshine away from the Ulster and Leinster at lunchtime in this NADA MODIS image. A pronounced line of cirrus cloud can be seen extending down the Irish Sea and Celtic Sea. The result of last night's heavy rains visible where the River Fergus enters the Shannon Estuary.

Queuing for a taxi at ACE airport in Lanzarote. Temperature is 19° and there's a light breeze. I've a jumper on and my winter jacket too but mild enough to have it unzipped. It's still far far more pleasant than when I left EIDW airport in Dublin this afternoon!
