Garlic press recommendation

I am using one where it’s two separate pieces

the handles and the little press through grater…

I’d love to find one that doesn’t need Samson in the kitchen to squeeze the garlic through

I hope this makes sense and thank you for reading and any replies of course

I use a nutmeg grater for garlic. Find it way better than an any press I've ever used.

I’m aware there’s lazy garlic, but I’m retired and have time to peel etc

I enjoy cooking from scratch

You can press cloves of garlic without peeling them.

You need the rocking one! I can't squeeze those two piece yokes either, I don't want to grate it or smash with a knife and chop. I have had many garlic presses and microplanes over the decades and I have to say that the rocker one from Dunnes is the best ever, effective, quick and so easy to clean!

I have been addicted to garlic for most of my life and this is the best garlic crusher I have used ever. I find there is less waste with this one alsi. I bought one a few years back and then bought a 2nd to have in reserve if 1st one ever breaks. 1st one is going strong, love it.

I find them far too mild. Nowhere near as garlicky as the traditional stuff. Plus you can just use as much as you need of the traditional stuff without having to worry about keeping the rest of it fresh as the cloves are all self-contained.

It isn't cheap but it's built to last. I've had mine for at least 30 years. Solid German engineering, you'll never need to buy another!

My advice is to not get one. Either grate it or dice it finely.

I've had one in the past and it was a pain to clean. 10 minutes of cleaning for a thing that you use for 30 seconds is not a good use of ones time.

And I found the Lazy range a waste of time and money.

Edit: Sorry, only now seeing you don't want to grate it. That rocker looks like what you want then.

I like the look of that rocker, but I don't use a garlic crusher.

I love the rocker one, I've tried every kind as worked in catering for a long time, I just can't squeeze the two handled ones sufficiently to make it effective, same with smushing it with a knife. I think you either have hands strong enough for this or you don't, I'm strong in lots of ways but not that hand squeezing motion. Same when I watch Jamie Oliver/Gordon Ramsay/Donal Skehan etc squeezing a lemon half straight into something, I'd never get enough juice out of it that way!

It's very easy clean, much easier than the squeezy ones in my opinion and I'm definitely not holding one to grate it, can't abide the lingering smell of garlic off my hands and not wasting a pair of gloves for just that!

I use garlic quite a bit… i find the global one (Lidl) haven’t seen anywhere else easy peeled compared to the individual bulb one

Current IKEA one is poor, the actual chamber is tiny and you'll often have to cut cloves in half.

I'm not sure I'd be giving Neven much credit for it 😆 he's just put his name to a container load from China! I originally got one several years ago and had ordered it in UK pre Brexit, it was slightly fancier in that it came with a garlic peeler and a little brush for cleaning the yoke but the rocker bit was the same. I knew Dunnes had them in recent past as I just happened to see them there. Hope you find it does the job anyway!

They seem to have two types. I have this one at least 10 years, easy clean and robust. I've broken at least two before this one. No issue fitting cloves in it.

Don't use it much though unless I'm doing several bulbs. Usually just use a knife. That Dunnes one looks handy though.
