    As the title says. If a person has recently passed away, is there a way of finding out who the executor of the estate is?

    Person looking to find out has no relationship with the deceased, nor did they know them personally.

    Whoever wants to administer the estate of the decease will need to get a grant of probate or grant of administration from the probate office of the High Court. Once that happens it's a matter of public record and anyone can find out who has been appointed to administer the estate.

    However it's not unusual for a grant not to be taken out (if the deceased left no property, or property not worth the expense of formal administration) or for a grant not to be taken out for a long time (if the family decide they can muddle along without one).

    If probate is already granted you will see the executor or administrator listed here;
