2016 avensis not starting

Hi

2016 1.6d avensis not starting this morning.driving perfect yesterday.

we tried jumping it and no joy.

lights and all electric working fine,the engine is not just turning over.

had breakdown assistance out and no luck which I had too pay €120 for.

he thinks a fuelling problem as car parked on side of footpath Monday - Saturday.

any ideas ??

he thinks if fuel pump is in center of tank the fuel might be on one side so nothing going through pump ?

he sprayed sumthing into a box under bonnet and car nearly started but died just as quick.

Doubt it's a fuel issue, it would turn over even if tank was dry. Perhaps starter motor.

Try a push start.

No idea, first post it's not turning over, next post it is.

Is there much diesel in the tank ?

It kinda of caught but didn’t start.

i only put in a fill yesterday as it was low but its over 1/4 full now

So the engine is turning over ok on a jump.

Is there a glowplug light coming up on the dash with the ignition and does it click off after seconds

Yes it turns over but doesn’t start.

No idea but I did drive it yesterday after I filled it up for about 75-100km with no issues

Do you regularly run the tank low ?

Could be the fuel filter if it wasn't changed recently.

Lift the back seats out, and give the floor underneath a good few belts with a rubber mallet. The fuel tank sits under the seat and might dislodge anything if the fuel filter is clogged. Sounds mad, but I got a focus td going this way. Give it a good clobber

Not really low but 70/80km always left in the tank before refilling.

Ive never changed fuel filter unless that’s done in annual service ?

It wouldn't be changed annually but after eight years if it wasn't changed that could be the problem.

I'm only going by the mechanic thinking fuel was your problem.

Maybe get your usual garage out in the morning.

Yes it was a tow truck driver who tried too start it,I rang my insurance too be told we were not covered for road side assistance.

Starter motor went in mine. For me that manifested as, it would start absolutely fine or nothing would happen when I turned the key. So it became a bit like Forest Gump's box of chocolates.

Garage onto me,the diesel I got was like water,do a new fuel pump,diesel filter and drain out all the old fuel and replace with 20L of new diesel.

€380 supplied & fitted plus the new diesel

Did you report it to where you bought the diesel. You can't have been the only one

Same happened my neighbour, same year. The starter needed to be replaced, seems to be a common problem

Just reading on line it seems too be a quite a common problem with this brand of petrol stations here in Dublin,hence the 1 r 2 cents cheaper price.
