Got this from Sky today...

Does this automatically take me out of contract?

They do this every year on April 1st and it’s in the T&C so it’s not a breach of contract.

Eir do it as well it's part of the contract you signed up to.

If you find you are only watching the free channels eg Irish, BBC, Yesterday etc then you could downgrade to the essentials package. €10/month with recording on Satellite box.

You need to ring them and tell them you want to downgrade to it. They may try and tell you that you need a Sky Q box if you don't have one but you don't. The older HD box is perfectly fine.

It's called Sky Essentials but some call it Sky Q Lite. Again you don't need a Sky Q box, hD box will do.

there's been some discussion on the Satellite forum that they're not doing Essentials in Ireland any more (I switched to it last year). If anyone successfully gets them to allow a switch then maybe come back and let us know here.

no Eurosport, but everything that's on Eurosport is also on Discovery+ which you may be able to get for free as a Sky VIP reward. Otherwise you can sign up for €7 a month.

Essentials has all RTE, BBC, Virgin, TG4, Dave and other UKTV channels and a somewhat random selection of others including E4Xtra but not actual C4 or E4, and Film4+1 but not actual Film4. You can tune in all the C4 channels under manual tuning but not record them (though C4 programmes are available under CatchUp - like I said, it's really random). Recording, series link etc all work.

No, it does not automagically take you out of contact, but it does give you a 30 day window to cancel with no penalty.

Sounds like a good deal. Is Sky Boxsets still available and other 'On Demand' options for the other channels players? Suppose the Entertainment pack on NowTV is pretty much the same so could get that one of the deals instead.

I don’t think it does. I know most providers allow you out of contract when they change the price but afair Sky have it in their T&Cs they can increase the price x% during the minimum contract period.

You have access to the catch up stuff like 4 on demand which gives you most of the channel 4 , E4 stuff

We have Firestick here so tried to do this too (downgrade to Essentials) a couple of weeks ago, and were told that Signature was the most basic package they offer now. We pushed and pushed and they said Signature is the most basic, so couldn't get near the €10 a month.

I signed up for signature in Jan. Paying €34 per month, soon to be €37. Rang yesterday to cancel and was told I couldn't cancel. Said I was locked into contract even if I pay a termination fee. They can cancel broadband but not tv.

Not sure what to believe now cos when I signed up I was told €34 was fixed for year!

This isn't a contract change it's part of the contract, three, Eir, Vodafone and sky introduced it last year

Yeah, I'd wonder if too many were availing it so they dropped it. It seemed to be a kind of thing to stop people cancelling outright, in the hope that they'd later come back to get Sports or Movies etc. Pity it was dropped though as seems to be the case.

No its an annual increase stated in the terms and conditions of the contract you signed up to.
