Replacement adjustment screw for vintage Stanley plane

Any ideas on where I might get a replacement adjustment screw / stud for an old Stanley plane (c. 1940s)? Or someone who restores these as a hobby?

The threads on the existing stud are damaged, so it neither threads into the frog nor allows the adjustment wheel to turn. I think it's a weird thread type, not easy to source.

The plane has sentimental value, would be nice to get it functional. Thanks!

Hi Bill,

A threaded stud is easily made, perhaps you can find a model engineer or someone with a small lathe to make you a new stud. Thread cutting on a lathe makes almost any thread geometry possible.

It's going to be an imperial thread of some sort, probably not too difficult to identify from the remnants of your old stud.

They have an oddball thread, won't be that easy to replicate, might be easier to pick up a damaged/ incomplete plane secondhand and scavenge the part you need. The screw threads don't appear to have changed over the years between makes, so even a cheap budget Silverline or Anant plane might have the part you need. I've restored a few of these over the years and never had problems finding missing or damaged parts to suit by using donor planes. McQuillans on Capel street do have a small range of spare parts for Stanley hand tools, but they are expensive.

Thanks, but it's actually the stud / threaded bar that this thumbwheel screws on to that's broken.

Might see if there's another plane I can buy to use for space parts, of a similar vintage.

That screws into the frog IIRC - do you mean the Y shaped lever which the thumb screw acts on?
